there is much debate over which genre A.F.I can be placed in. hardcore, punk, gothic, the truth is, they are all of these, and much more! and not to mention much better than one on its own. this is their best album to date, and even if youre not a big fan, this is a must have for any self-respecting rock music fan! BUY IT NOW!!

This is the darkest CD I've ever heard. Fair enough, I do not listen to Death Metal but for a huge fan of the Californian punk scene this was scary. These songs are written with incredible musicianship - instead of 'in-your-face' hardcore punk anthems A.F.I. decided to write songs which pull vigorously at your heart strings and effect you no matter what genre of punk you listen to. Don't get me wrong - this is still unmistakably A.F.I. - Davey's awesome vocals, crunchy guitars and throbbing drums. However they've added a couple of new sounds like harmonics. Listen for Dexter Hollands back-up vocals on here too. If you like A.F.I. then I'm sure you'll know where these guys are coming from and I'm sure you'll agree this was one of the best releases of 1999.

this is a darker album than the majority of afi releases,the lyrics emphasise that fact,this was released in 1999 and wasnt a major seller but unlike alot of albums in the rock/metal genre of the same year this one is still a joy to listen too.the brilliance of afi lies in their ability to fuse punk with rock and through in chorus' that could make an angel throw down their harp and dance along to it,the band chants always ensure thats the case,the lyrics are dark but in the ebnd offer hope,its always good to read the lyrics from afi as they are genuine and heartfelt,davey is always capable of an earth shattering scream but his real strength lies in his singing which glides along with the guitar,bass and drums perfectly,songs like god called in sick today,the prayer position,and the last kiss are all on here,afi will amaze you if you havent heard them before,take notice

Good Album
I love this album the AFI sound is very good on this album. Clove smoke catharsis is my fav song on this album. all the other songs are very good too.

Awesome
Clove smoke catharsis is the only BAD song on this album. You have it totally wrong. Samey drum beats, not really. Can you seriously call god called in sick today a bad song? Read more

pointless
This album is almost total garbage! Why? Most of the tracks are just shouting over silly samey fast drum beats.
