Second albums are often as problem as most of the best songs that have been worked on for years are unsurprisingly included on the debut, so a followup to the excellent Captain Morgan's revenge was always going to be problem.

The problem has been easily resolved with this cracking new album. Nine Rollocking songs and one fast and furious instrumental.

The songs are very catchy and full of fun, and Chritopher Bowes's vocals are the epitomy of all things piratical.

The sound is slightly more guitar driven on this album with thundering drums.

Stand out songs to me are Keelhauled (can't get the chorus out my mind), Leviathan (hard and heavy and also the first time I've caught the word eviscerating in a song!) and the very jolly wolves of the sea which is almost as good on album as it was performed live.

The rest of the songs including the stunning famous old spiced are all strong and will work really well live.

Champion album spend some of your hard fought for booty on it now or you'll end up walking the plank!

The CD is the usual Alestorm awesomeness, it's nice having Leviathan on CD along with the other new ones. I really enjoyed it ^_^ The CD gets 5/5, the fact that it's not that a great ltd edition knocked a star off

At the moment it's about £16 and I'm kind of glad I used a voucher on it. If you've seen Alestorm live already I wouldn't bother too much about getting the DVD. It's fine... but it's not amazing and I've seen them better. If you haven't seen them live or saw them at Wacken you'll be more bothered about it. The packaging isn't brilliant either. The cover's prettier than the basic edition but that's about it.

I'd wait and see if it comes down in price if you're determined you want this one...

Now, yes, I know it's a bit of a one trick pony, but if you're going to have bands bashing out battle metal, then you may as well have one dressed up as pirates, singing songs about pirates, calling themselves pirate metal.

For sure, Running Wild did it all a hunnerd years or so back, but we can hardly claim to be overrun with bands of this ilk. It is a bit keyboard heavy for me in places, but as the Scotch rockers rampage through 'That Famous Ol' Spiced', 'Keelhauled' and, yes, 'Pirate Song', you can't fail to have a smile on your face, a bang in your head, and a parrot on your shoulder.

Good, fun, hearty metal, and there's nowt wrong with that!

This has to be the catchiest and most fun metal album I've had the pleasure of hearing this year. Similar to Korpiklaani, just with a pirate theme, not folk. Read more
