Book Description

30 Jun 2005 In the Garden Trilogy (Book 2)
Roz Harper is a woman who has lived life on her own terms. She had dearly loved her first husband. After his death, she had thrown herself into raising their boys, and then into making a business out of her passion for gardening. Roz likes her life just as it is, and it would take a very special man to convince her to take that leap of faith into love again. A man like Dr. Mitchell Carnegie, the genealogist she's hired to research the origins of the family ghost, known as the Harper Bride. Mitch and Roz are drawn together from the start. But the Harper Bride is enraged by the sight of love, and though she may have brought Mitch and Roz together, she will stop at nothing to tear them apart.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gardening and Ghosts 27 Jun 2006
By Scriber_scouse VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback
Second in the In the Garden series follows the well trodden Nora Roberts paranormal formula; a trio of strong female leads who manage quite nicely on their own, thank you, but meet their equal in a man whilst avoiding danger. Black Rose is the most interesting of the series, despite the fact that Roz (Rosalind Harper) and Mitch, the geneologist she hires to track the Harper Bride's past, are the oldest members of the group.

Roz is very likeable and cares deeply for her grown up boys, because of this the ghost who haunts her ancestral home has always been kind to her, singing her children to sleep with lullabies. Now that Roz faces falling in love again the Harper Bride becomes angry and vengeful. More of the mystery is revealed in this one but the Harper Bride lacks any real menace so far to qualify for Henry James-ian psychological horror.

The romance is very satisfying - if you can get past two older people enjoying sex, which some friends of mine found hampered their reading enjoyment. The two leads have great chemistry but the repeated references to gardening and the obvious withholding of information for the final installment makes this fairly average. My advice SKIM the gardening sections and hold out for the ghostly encounters.

This is a paranormal trilogy that could have been an excellent single stand alone title in the manner of Three Fates. Fans of Nora Roberts in paranormal mode might want to check out the Key trilogy or her latest due out in September.

5.0 out of 5 stars the second book of the Bride 10 Nov 2005
Format:Paperback
Now I think that all women when they reached their forties would want to be like Roz. Dow to earth and gorgeous, and she makes this a very entertaining read as she falls in love with lovable Mitch (second love of her life) and tries to get to the bottom of Amelia's mesrtyrious past. Great read and follow up to Blu Dahlia. Worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, can't wait for the next installment 10 Jun 2005
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I've been waiting for this for some time now, in fact from the moment I put down it's predecessor Blue Dahlia. I meant to try to make this book last, and read a little at a time, but as usual with Ms Roberts books I totally lost track of all time and finished the book in about 3 days.
Nora Roberts trilogies are a total phenomenon. As usual in her other trilogies I've read with a similar supernatural theme the intensity of the supernatural activity increases, and more of the backstory is revealed. Some you can anticipate, some takes you totally by surprise. Of course it's also great to see a little more of Stella [from Blue Dahlia] and her family, and I'm really looking forward to seeing Hayley and Harper get it together, as well as find out the full story of the Harper Bride. If the intensity increases in the next book Red Lily - it should be a good one! I for one will be putting in my order.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 14 Jun 2005
Format:Paperback
Loved this book. It is a fabulous romantic novel with fantastic characters. I think Nora must have really enjoyed this partciular novel as the characters are so good and the dynamics between them so lively. Maybe they will make a film. Highly recommended for summer reading and I can't wait for the third book.

This is the second book of "In the garden Triology", I was given the first book "Blue Dahalia" to read from a friend, Having quickly read it i was delighted to find that it was part of a triology, with great excitement i was pleased to discover that i was able to purchase the remainder of the books via amazon. I have fell in love with the author "Nora Roberts" and have started to read another triology, Three Sisters Island, which again being given one of the books i purchased the remainer via amazon....... keeps me busy and out of mischief!!!

As part of a Triliogy I cannot recommend it too highly. It moves at an exciting pace and if you want a change from your usual books try Nora Roberts some of her books are really'different' and a complete tonic from the usual hearts and flowers novels. Great stuff.
