Heard these people, improbably, on BBC Radio 4, and was instantly hooked! The leader is, perhaps also improbably, a Norwegian, and there's about a dozen of them altogether. This is not for the faint hearted, of those of a delicate disposition - it's raw, doesn't take itself too seriously, and much of the subject matter is pretty dark really - but somehow it makes you smile! Great driving music. As for the style, well, the nearest I can get is Blues Brothers meets the Pogues, with added deranged gypsy violins. There are nods to bad-ass rock'n'roll, spaghetti westerns, and possibly even the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and I suspect their tongues are firmly in their cheeks musically a lot of the time. They sound like they are having a blast, and the use of lots and lots and lots of real instruments, played with gusto, is invigorating. I'm off to buy their other album too!
