Wondering what to get my dad for xmas, i saw these DIY camera's here on amazon and decided i would get him one, he likes photography as well as i do, so it seems the perfect gift, though i will give him his tripod first and jokingly tell him i bought him a camera to go with it, he will not believe me of course, not seeing that i have just bought a new Leica for myself, but he likes assembling and disassembling things and a DIY camera just seemed too good to miss.

If you are thinking of getting one of these from this supplier, then buy as soon as they come in stock, there were lots a few weeks ago, when i went to order they had sold out, a week later and 5 more appeared, they soon sold out too, these are very popular it seems, and with free postage thrown in, the price is irresistible really, so if their in stock and your going to buy it, grab it while you can, these go pretty fast.

Very happy with the product so far, even though its still in its box, unassembled, i know my dad will love it, its right up his avenue.

I ordered this as someone who likes messing with cameras and also taking photos. The whole idea of Lomography and imperfect photographs appeals to me. I'm still using film in a couple of old slrs mainly for black and white pictures.
This arrived in a well packaged kit with all pieces present and correct. The instructions are obviously a pretty poor translation but the pictures are good enough. It took and hour or so to put together which I found enjoyable and didn't hit any snags that weren't down to me not paying enough attention.
In use, it's a funny little thing. The only problem seems to be with the film engaging with the sprocket that shows you how far on to wind the film. I would suggest getting an old or cheap film to practice with (Agfa Vista is £1 in our local Poundland).
This isn't claiming to be anything special but it is fun and might give you an insight into how a camera works. The ability to use a TLR that uses 35mm film rather than 120 means the cost per photo is less.
Recommended for fun and a little bit of education!

great fun to put together, it only took about an hour to put together and the instructions were easy to follow. Have only put one film through so far ( 400ASA black and white pushed to 1600ASA due to gloomy weather) but came out fine. Note Shutter speed and exposure are fixed, shutter speed approx 1/125 sec though i have seen it quoted as being anywhere between 1/100 to 1/150 and lens is approx f 11.

Bought this for a friends birthday just for the fun of it. It took us 3 hours to put it together but it can be debated whether that was due to our inability to read diagrams! I would suggest googling for other help and/or videos. Unfortunately at one point there was a small section that couldn't be aligned properly due to the way the piece was made, so we had to sand it down so that we could finish building it which is obviously not ideal. Also not long after using it a chunk of plastic chipped off one of the lenses. It can still be used but I would say it's a bit on the delicate side.

We haven't finished taking pictures yet but even if the photos aren't that great it was good fun to build it together with my friend and looks nice and retro.
