Product Description

Alex Hunter, code named Arcadian, wakes up with no knowledge of who he is, in the care of a woman he doesn't recognise, in a country not his own. But there is a calling deep within him, to return home to Black Mountain.

Formed a billion years ago, the Appalachian's Black Mountain hosts a terrible legend. Only one elder remains to guard its long-forgotten, deadly secret and there is a fear that there is evil lurking again. Some hikers have gone missing, and the rescue team sent to search for them has not returned. Meanwhile, in nearby Ashville, Professor Matt Kearns is drawn into the mystery of an ancient artefact recovered from the mountainside, and an image too grotesque to be real.

A survivor is then found half-alive, covered in blood - blood revealed to be not quite human.

Alex must confront an age-old enemy of man and discover the truth about his past, and confront the horror that stalks the frozen mountain, and also the one haunting his very soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars ARCADIAN!!!!!! 2 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Greig Beck's 4th Arcadian book is a direct follow-up to the brilliant This Green Hell.

Our hero, Alex Hunter, has no memory of who (or what) he is and with the help of the beautiful, yet deadly, Mossad spy Adira Senesh sets out to discover his past.

Meanwhile, something not quite human has been accidentally released from the depths of hell and is attacking the quiet folk of a small American town. A colourful combination of characters investigate this and pretty soon alarm bells are ringing as it is slowly revealed to them exactly what they're dealing with.

Alex too is drawn to the same small American town searching for his answers. Pursued by numerous foreign (and domestic!) agencies who all want a piece of the Arcadian they all collide on Black Mountain for a frenetic climax.

Greig's books are such great fun and provide wonderful escapism. Up there with Matthew Reilly, Andy McDermott and James Rollins for action and adventure.

Can't wait for the next.

By RBSProds TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
Four and a Half MASTERFUL Stars! "Black Mountain" is another wild literary ride by author Greig Beck detailing the latest exploits of super soldier Alex Hunter of the "Hotzone All-Forces Warfare Commandos" (HAWCs) and it covers a wide swath of time from 11,000 BC to 1935 to the current times at various locations around the world. In fact, so much is going on in subplots at various locations and is being written about so effectively, readers may have to re-adjust their mindset back onto the main plot.Author Beck has jammed this novel full of personages who are the stuff of nightmares, terrorists and counter-terrorists, amazing recoveries by Alex, forensic oddities, mysterious disappearances, and lots of gruesome physical battles. We also see the return of the lovely and dangerous Mossad agent Adira Senesh from "Dark Rising" and Professor Matt Kearns from "Beneath the Dark Ice (Alex Hunter)", plus other surprise characters. The novel opens with Alex recovering in Israel from the near-fatal activities of "This Green Hell", officially presumed dead by the USA and struggling to regain his physical and psychological strengths. Meanwhile, mysterious disappearances are occurring around Black Mountain in North Carolina and author Beck conjures up an accumulation of people who are involved in multiple action sequences that are highly imaginative and over-the-top. I won't give out any more information to spoil the fun and surprises. Read more ›
