I have played the other games in this series and they were good. This one started out fairly well... The gameplay was fine with good graphics and it was quite atmospheric in parts, although contrary to some of the reviews I read before buying it, I found the village dreary and lifeless and somewhat smaller than I remembered from the last game. There were no bugs though and the game played smoothly with moderately challenging puzzles and a new insertion of a switch on the puzzle screen, which if you're stuck for too long lets you skip the puzzle. But unfortunately the ending was more than slightly feeble, and despite being touted as the last in the series, actually looked to me like it was left open for another episode or a spin off of some sort.
I deducted a star for the very anti-climactic ending which was over before I realised I had finished the game and another star for the voice acting and poorly researched "life in a small English village". Take the name Willow Creek for a start, where did they get that? A short check on the web would tell them that the term Creek is not used here it is generally used in either the US or Australia, and the writers seem the think that UK residents don't frequent Cafe's for heavens sake we've had them in the UK since the 1600's... Now I know I am being picky, but I am a believer in doing things properly if you are expecting people to pay for and enjoy your product, and since so many of the voice actors appeared to be British, I assume this could have been put right at the beginning. All in all, not a bad game, but not fantastic and as I said in the title, only get this if you really really need to find out the ending of the saga of the Gordons, or a die hard fan of the genre otherwise you're going to be a wee bit disappointed.
