4.0 out of 5 stars Great book, 19 April 2002
This review is from: Black Magic (Paperback)
One of Shirow's earliest works is this. The artwork isn't really much compared to the epic Ghost in the Shell manga, which was fantastic. It has a lot to keep sci and action fans happy though. Also note that this is nothing like the anime, only the same name and both by Shirow(some other similarities do occur, but not many).

3.0 out of 5 stars Black Magic, 18 Oct 2000
By "pettel@aa.net" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Black Magic (Paperback)
Black Magic is Masamune Shirow's first work. While it does not have the most solid plot and the visuals are not quite on par with Shirow's more recent work, fans will probably enjoy it despite its faults. As an added bonus there is a never-before-published diagram of the Marionette-66 robot included at the end of the book. While probably not for newcomers, Black Magic is a great addition to any Masamune Shirow fan's library.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for Masamune Shirow Fans!, 5 April 2000
By "jem777bfp" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Black Magic (Paperback)
One of Masamune's early works. Black Magic seems to be Shirow's prototype for developing the world of Appleseed. Appleseed fans will probably notice some parallels/links/continuations in this book.

As an early work, the art is very similar to the first Appleseed book in that there is less detailed art work that appear in his later works (most significant of which is his latest Ghost in the Shell).

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great One from Shirow, 12 April 2005
By R. Brown "JapanVisitor.com" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Black Magic (Paperback)
This is the first work by Ghost in the Shell author Masamune Shirow. The time is sometime in the future. It is a time when "the creation of life itself has evolved to include biodroids" and cyborg warriors that are programmed to kill. The power struggle between the above life-forms and humans could spell the end of life as it is known. However, the aptly named Typhon may just be the one with the power to stop them.
This is a must buy for any serious Shirow fan-or for those who want to discover one of the master's of Japanese manga.
