Book Description

A stunning thriller that predicted the National Security Agency scandal. "Brad Thor is as current as tomorrow’s headlines." —Dan Brown

#1 New York Times bestselling author Brad Thor returns with his most explosive thriller ever. Somewhere deep inside the United States government is a closely guarded list. Members of Congress never get to see it—only the President and a secret team of advisers. Once your name is on the list, it doesn’t come off . . . until you’re dead.

Someone
has just added counterterrorism operative Scot Harvath’s name.

Somehow
Harvath must evade the teams dispatched to kill him long enough to untangle who has targeted him and why they want him out of the way.

Somewhere, someone, somehow
can put all the pieces together. The only question is, will Harvath get to that person before the United States suffers the most withering terrorist attack ever conceived?

An intense, page-turning novel that is action-packed and frighteningly real, Black List blurs the line between fiction and reality and once again reaffirms why Brad Thor "is arguably the best thriller writer of our time" (Suspense Magazine) and "America’s favorite author" (KTTX).

"Are You not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have power to crucify You, and power to release You?" -- John 19:10 (NKJV)

A black list has historically meant that someone was banished, or banned, from a country or activity. This novel would have been more appropriately titled "Hit List," which would have captured the premise more accurately. The government has a list of people who are to be assassinated.

Although there's supposed to be a little due process to be sure that mistakes aren't made, this list has been compromised so that names are added for reasons other than protecting the nation against traitors and spies.

Scot Harvath makes this list and finds himself being hunted by his own government. It's a terrifying prospect that even a patriot like Harvath can be at risk ... and have no easy way to remedy matters.

Because of the extreme danger that Harvath finds himself in, the book necessarily involves a long series of attempts to evade detection and remain alive. In that sense, it's more of a suspense story than an action thriller. So don't expect the same level of action that you are accustomed to in past books. Even so, the book does drag a bit in places. So you won't get the full adrenaline rush.

You will, instead, receive a lot of food for thought ... especially about the need to be sure that checks and balances are in place on those with virtually unlimited power.

Think about it!

dreadfully frightening but brilliant. could not put it down, there were so many twists and turns. it does make you think how vulnerable we are and how much information is held about each of us.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thor-tastistic 27 Sept. 2012

Scott Harvast rides again with thrills a-plenty, and this time Nicholas and his dogs even get in on the action. Doncha love a good mauling. And talk about your page turner - I read this in less than 24 hours and loved every minute. Reminded me a bit of a reverse Revenge of the Nerds with the gorgeous jocks and jockesses (yes, the assorted lovlies of the Athena project return) taking on the evil computer geeks and their henchmen. In this they are aided by the 'grey panthers' of Reed Carlton and his old boss - octogenarian action as the oldies take on a hit team on the streets of the capital. I've been reading Thor since The Lions of Lucerne and as modern thriller writers go, he is one of the best. All in all a fun read and I am looking forward to the next.

3.0 out of 5 stars black list 14 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Good start but got confusing when the author referred to the characters by their surnames and the characters used their first names, I had to keep flicking pages to follow who was who and it became a little annoying. Quite a few spelling mistakes and words used out of context but a ok read. Prefer the other books to this one. Had the potential to be a great Indiana Jones type room raiding adventure thriller but didn't quite get there. That said, I love Brad Thor ans will try another.

5.0 out of 5 stars A terrific read! 11 Nov. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
"Black List" picks up where "First Black" leaves off. While I don't intend getting into details, the latter in my opinion, has received some overly harsh comments. Brad Thor's books are exciting escapist adventures. Consistency in an author is ideal; some of BT's books are going to be better received than others. That's inevitable. "Black List", in my opinion, is one of the better ones. Unless you are a conspiracy theorist, the plot is far fetched, but that is the attraction of the story line. Read this book - and the others in the series - escape and enjoy! A terrific read...And while you waiting for the next Brad Thor offering, have a look at Scott Mariani's Ben Hope series.
