5.0 out of 5 stars Divine Perfection 13 Dec 2000

Former Wildheart Ginger has exceeded all previous expectations with his new project Silver Ginger 5. Bringing together the uplifting rock melodies of the Wildhearts, the glam of Slade and Sweet, then heating and stirring in some sort of big rock and roll saucepan, adding dashes of beauty, distortion and a wonderful rythmn section. Black Leather Mojo should be on the top of any self respectiong rock fans wish list. We're greeted on the journey by the first song, Sonic Shake, a tune that'll grab you by the nuts, and invite you sit up, take notice and pour a beer down your throat. A sound so rock and so right, it'll blow you away. How they manage to keep this amazing standard up throughout is beyond me. The glam rock of Girls are Better than Boys, transports you from the modern day, back to the 70's with exploding geetars and platform shoes. Every single tune, riff, melody (yes rock fans melodies...) drips with rock and roll attitude. The highlights. An awesome Anyway, but Maybe, which opens upo with a barrage of noise, an almost robot like riff, and a mechanical drum sound, before unfolding into one of Gingers best songs. Connie Bloom, guitarist chugs away on those six strings, it sound so good, to be heavy and beautiful at the same time. The Church of the Brokenhearted, don't be put of by the fact it's a (say it in hushed tones) a balad, it's a tune that shows why SG5 are going to be better than the Wildhearts. The soaring chorus, beautifully writen lyrics, and damn fine tune, just makes you want to slap it on repeat. In fac... glue those whole CD on your player... You won't wanna take it off... The Wildhearts are dead. Long live Silver Ginger 5!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mercury Music Prize winner 2001? 18 Oct 2000

What can be said about Silver Ginger 5 that gives this CD justice? Basically, every song on this CD is uplifting sonic genius! SG5 is the brain child of Ginger (ex-leader/visionary of the best and most influential British rock band of the '90s - The Wildhearts! ). BLM is chock full with superb rock anthems and sing-along songs without sounding like something from the last Millennium. Each song (and I say song, as they're not just a collection of riffs thrown together) sounds different than the previous one and they all work together perfectly. It's hard to describe what these songs sound like, but all will be trepanned into your head after the first listen. Just turn up your stereo to 11 and blast out the CD from start to finish. You'll be jumping around and singing along like a mentalist before you know it. All of the songs on the CD could be singles and all would be Number One in a fair world. You MUST buy this CD on import as it is going to be released in the UK in the new year with a different track listing as SG5 have already returned to the studio to record more aural gems! C'mon then, get it while it's HOT! The Wildhearts were criminally ignored, please don't let this happen to Silver Ginger 5. Be one of the first to spread the word, they're going to be legends.

Whatever sort of rock you like, you will love this. The darkness make an album ALMOST as good as this and the whole world goes apeshit. Our man Ginger makes another rock masterpiece and one man and his dog (plus loyal fans) go to see SG5 at Portsmouth Wedgeward Rooms! Go figure! Or just go buy it and check out Gingers other stuff, it might make a difference, then one day we can go see him at Wembley! Fat chance, and I'll probably say it was better at a small venue anyway!
