I've had a big problem with these caddies.

I recently decided to go back to `real' tea and I wanted to find a caddy that reminded me of years ago when I drank nothing else - and this looked ideal. The problem is; there are many sellers out there supplying caddies from batches of new old stock which were found in a basement recently from the 1980s which were produced by the British `Metal Box Company' - these are the best ones in terms of `quality', but unfortunately sellers are not telling you that they are being sold with marks and stains on them (like `seconds') which cannot be removed without damaging the design and patination that appears on the lid...

Okay; so this doesn't exactly affect the storage of the tea - except though I had a couple that did also have a sort of `white bloom' inside (similar to mould - but am unsure if it actually was) and so would not use them for storage to be on the safe side.

Now, there's an `upside' and `downside' to all of this; most that are sold here on Amazon are `reproductions' of the original design which come from Asia and are BRAND NEW - these are better for use because they are new and in pristine condition. However, the `downside' is; the tin used is of a much thinner gauge than that which is used in the British production - and the pattern not so bright or as detailed either, and so the decision is of course yours as to which you prefer: a better tin - but soiled, or a cheaper tin - but brand new? However, I would advise you email any seller before purchasing to ask if it says `CONTAINER MADE IN ENGLAND' on the lid - these are the ones that are the new old stock - but `seconds'; the ones without this stamp are brand new and in perfect condition and come from Asia.

Having decided to go back to leaf tea i wanted a tea caddy. When I saw this one it reminded of my childhood when my mom had one so I bought it. It is a good tin that keeps the tea leaves fresh.

I ordered this Tea Tin Caddy because my Grandmother had one and it reminds me of us having tea together. She used tea leaves but I will use mine to store Earl Grey teabags for a special cup of tea. The tin is airtight and looks pretty sitting on the sideboard. When I showed it to my Mum and she remembered the design too. It seems to have been very popular at one time, maybe on sweet tins at Christmas?

The tin was promptly delivered and I love it, so thanks!

This tea caddy is hinged which does not seem an important feature but many have not. It is attractive and because of that hinge there is unlikely to be any spillage when full.

These remind me of my younger days when my gran had the set.........beautiful little tins, I bought 3 (coffee, tea and sugar). Nice tight lid and packaged well. The other 2 received 5 stars, this one a 4 because it has a slight dink on the corner, to be honest you can't see it and I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of sending back. Clearly a fault at production as they were well packaged for delivery.

Very similar in all aspects to 8oz caddy only bigger. Perfect for holding larger amounts of loose leaf tea or even tea bags. I highly recommend
