Product Description

From the Author

Welcome to the world of political noir.
Contrary to wht has been reported, Black Heat is not a conventional crime or mystery novel. It is a political noir or politique noir. It is about the seamy side of post-civil rights America during America's postmodern era, where almost everything is a racket and can be reduced to the profit motive. It notes the deals that the black elite has made with the white overclass. It's about the niggerati and Pet Negroes. It's about a woman of her times who has to confront the corruption that has enmeshed all aspects of American society. It's about the white elite having the black elite shill for their policies and black complicity with the forces that are arrayed against. It's about funk and the new revolution that is slowly bubbling up from the earth. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This refreshing mystery, described by the author as a politcal noir, was very surprising and refreshing. This mystery excited me intelligently. The herione of the book was one of the most strongest black women and I would love to read a series about her. Kelly left a huge opening for a continued story. He also paints vivid pictures of his villians and the historical aspect further inticed me.

Highly Recommended 28 Dec 1999
By Karen Lengel - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is great -- a page turner from the start, and intertwined with the mystery is a spirited political and social commentary. The politics are thought provoking, but an easy read without being insulting or oversimplified. Looking forward to the sequel!

Bad Mama Jama 26 Mar 2002
By angela conley - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Nina takes no prisoners. Kelley does a good job of creating a reasonably believable story line. His sleuth, Nina is feisty, funky and fun. The barely veiled anger and bitterness about her lost family are just sublimated enough to provide time for investigating. I appreciated the black nationalist gone amuck with corruption stuff, but I was happier with Nina's ability to bounce back from major issues. She is smart, credentialed and able to defend her concerns intellectual and otherwise. Looking forward to future encounters with Ms. Halligan.
