Product Description

Product Description

Although it looks like a toy and comes at a relatively low price, don't be fooled--Nintendo's GameCube is a powerful video-game console that rightly deserves its place among the other next-generation game systems. Nintendo has concentrated its efforts on games and the titles are uniformly smooth with bright, fast graphics and great sound. The GameCube is the first Nintendo video-game system to use disc-based media--in this case proprietary three-inch, 1 GB discs--rather than cartridges for its games. The controllers (one is included) are ergonomically designed for use over extended periods; there's a built-in rumble feature and two analogue control sticks complement an intuitive series of face and shoulder buttons. The system comes with four built-in controller ports, a built-in carry handle and two memory card slots--there's also the capacity for expansion into online gaming.

Of course, the main advantage of the GameCube is that it's the home field of one of the world's premier game designers--Nintendo. While powerhouses, such as Electronic Arts and Sega, make games for all systems (including this one) you can only play Nintendo games on a Nintendo system. Here's a brief roll-call of characters and series you won't find on the other consoles: Mario, Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Kirby and, of course, Pokémon.

In short, the GameCube isn't an all-in-one entertainment system and neither is it (quite) the most powerful of the modern video-game consoles. But for video-game enthusiasts who appreciate the superlative gameplay of Nintendo titles, its value cannot be beaten.

This bundle includes a copy of Mario Kart: Double Dash!, plus a bonus disc containing GameCube versions of four classic Zelda games--The Legend of Zelda (NES), The Adventure of Link (NES), The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64), The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask (N64)--and a one-level demo version of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GameCube).

5.0 out of 5 stars An very good package 6 Mar 2004
First of all, the contents. This package contains a limited edition black GameCube, controller, UK power cable and AV cable with SCART adaptor; a copy of Mario Kart: Double Dash; and a limited edition bonus disc containing GameCube versions of four classic Zelda games, plus a demo of Zelda: Wind Waker.
The GameCube is a pretty good console. It has a nice selection of games, many of which are unavailable on other consoles, and the specifications for it, although not as powerful as other consoles such as the Xbox and PS2, are impressive none the less. The console itself is a lot smaller than the previous two mentioned above and it has a handy carry handle sticking out the top. The only problem I have with it is the controller, as I had a PS2 before hand and I find it a little more difficult to use, although as I say, this is a problem I have and I am sure there are those who do not. Also, the package does not include a memory card, meaning you will have to pay extra if you want to save your games as soon as you start playing. I would recommend buying one at the same time, which is what I did, and I still didn't have to spend more than £100.
Mario Kart: Double Dash is a very good game, sure to entertain you for quite a while. There are enough modes and courses to keep you playing, and there are plenty of secrets to unlock, although sometimes it does get a little repetitive playing the same cup five or six times because you keep losing by 2 or 3 points each time. The game itself is worth 4 stars.
The bonus disc with the Zelda games is likewise entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a package! 3 Dec 2003
This package demands recognition as brilliant value for money. For what you pay, you get a dedicated games machine with better graphics capabilities than the PS2, although admittedly not as good as the XBox. But what neither of the other two machines have is Mario Kart. This is quite simply one of the best multiplayer games you can buy. It is easy to get to grips with, it looks great, and anyone who has played it or any of the previous versions will agree it is totally addictive. What more do you want from a game?
Also, the controller is the best designed of the three. Not as chunky as the XBox, and more modern than the 8-year old PSone/PS2 controller.
Also, you get a bonus disc featuring in my opinion the best game franchise ever. The demo of The Wind Waker should make you go out and buy the full version, The Legend of Zelda and The Adventure of Link show you how it all began, but if you want to play what many believe to be the greatest game ever even in the wake of GTAIII and Vice City, you have to play Ocarina of Time. Like GTAIII, this game is huge, non-linear and contains loads of mini-games. Unlike GTA, there are no dubious morals. It boils down to a tail of saving the girl, the world and defeating the bad guy. After playing this, you'll want more, so you get more! You get the sequel, Majora's Mask, which in my opinion is every bit as good as it's predecessor, although some find it's time travel feature a bit annoying.
All in all, for £95, you get a great console and 5 of the best games you could ever hope to play. Only for dedicated gamers.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best gamecube deal so far! 13 Dec 2003
The gamecube is an excellent console with a wide variety of games, some of which are only available on a Nintendo console, 5 of these games are included in this pacakge.
The main game is Mario Kart:Double Dash!!, with outstanding graphics, control, gameplay and multiplayer, it is the follow up to Mario Kart 64 that everyone expected. The remaining 4 games all come in the form of the Legend Of Zelda Collectors Disc, which contains the original Legend of Zelda form the NES, The Adventure of Link from the NES, Ocarina of Time (without a doubt the greatest game ever!!) and it's follow up Majoras Mask from the N64 ( although Majora Mask has suffered from the conversion, it now has a few sound problems and the occasional frame rate drop but otherwise it is a great game). This disc is a must have for any true Zelda fan, and on the Gamecube is the only way to play the most recent Zelda game "The Wind Waker" along with other Nintendo exclusives like Mario, Metroid and F Zero.
The Gamecube runs on minidiscs, so it cannot play DVD's which is the consoles biggest drawback, but if you are willing to put this flaw aside then this is a great console. The controller is very well made with context sensitive buttons which do different actions depending on how hard you push it in. The Gamecube is graphically superior to the PS2 but not to the XBox.
The Gamecube is one of the best consoles on the market and now being the cheapest of the consoles, rather then other console which focus on extras (DVD's), the Gamecube is built for one thing- FUN, which it definatley provides.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gamecube - Nintendo carrying on their legacy 28 May 2006
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I've spent many hours happily playing "Double Dash" on my roommates gamecube, and I love both the game and the console itself. The fact that this package also includes the last(64bit)-generation "zelda" games is definitely not to be sniffed at either. With a particular emphasis on "Ocarina of Time", the franchise is widely viewed as one of the most successful in gaming history, and its titles make up a much-loved section of any nintendo fans library.

The one thing that causes this to lose a star is the fact the "Double Dash" is primarily a multiplayer game. It is at its most frantically hilarious when there are two or more of you battling for supremacy on the track. Single player is enjoyable, but a computer opponent can only keep a person occupied for so long before it ceases to become challenging. And because this package only includes the one controller, it really does prompt the purchaser to invest in another one.

Still, we're talking about an incredibly good deal for the price listed. I'd recommend this package to anyone who's interested in buying a console. It's not just about sony and microsoft, people! :D

And finally, I would respectfully ask the previous reviewer in the future not to bother leaving a review for a product that he hasn't played and "would never buy", as he therefore has no idea what he's talking about.
