Book Description

"A promising start to a complex black-ops thriller series." - Kirkus Reviews

Black Flagged Alpha: Prequel to the Black Flagged series (Previously Black Flagged)

Daniel Petrovich, the most lethal operative created by the Department of Defense's Black Flag Program, protects a secret buried in the deepest vaults of the Pentagon.

Blackmailed into executing one final mission, Daniel's carefully constructed "life" rapidly disintegrates into a relentless federal manhunt--and a "24-style" race against the clock to suppress the shocking truth about his past.

To survive, he'll release the darkest side of his concealed identity. A dark side with few boundaries--and even fewer loyalties.

Black Flagged lays the foundation for a gritty, high-octane series exploring the serpentine link between covert operations and government agency politics.

Fans of Ludlum and Thor alike will revel in this new Black Ops series.

    3.0 out of 5 stars Hmm! 27 Mar. 2014

I didn't really enjoy this book too much,it was OK and was reasonably readable, but I did find it a little similar to umpteen other books and films I have seen over the years.
The rogue 'Black' CIA splinter cell (which is working for the goodies) is really beginning to wear a little thin to me so I will not be reading any 'follow ups' to this book

3.0 out of 5 stars Did Not Meet My Expectations 27 Jan. 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I chose this book on a recommendation. The synopsis was interesting. As an English reader, I quite enjoy books about the CIA and the FBI and covert agents, but overall, I was quite disappointed in the book. Daniel Petrovich is a dormant member of the Department of Defence's Black Flag Programme. For several years, he has settled into a nondescript life in the suburbs with his wife Jessica. He suddenly receives a call and is coerced into carrying out one final mission, which he thinks will finally release him from the clutches of General Sanderson. Instead, it launches him back into a world of guns, knives and killing. One in which he appears to take great delight in doing.

I found the storyline initially gripping and exciting, even though it was difficult to keep track of all the characters. At this stage, I even recommended the book to others. About half way through I began to lose interest, and glossed over several sections but managed to stick with it to the end.

I felt no affinity or empathy with any of the characters. In this type of book, one character usually stands out as the likeable hero, but in this case Daniel Petrovich did nothing to redeem himself, by killing innocent and guilty alike.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Clancy-esque thriller that'll keep you hooked. 1 April 2015
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As someone who is still relatively new to the Kindle (but a former professional critic - eight years as a magazine journalist spent reviewing all manner of things before I gave it all up to chase criminals) I quickly realised that the e-Book market is both a blessing and a curse. The former because just about anybody can write a book and get it published, and the latter... because just about anybody can write a book and get it published.
The sad fact is that despite what you might be told at school, or at college, or down the pub... not everyone can be an author. And some should never be. And unfortunately the Kindle Market is a bit like the auditions section of the X-Factor - lots of average-to-good talent mixed in with a lot of dross which tends to get in the way of discovering those with a REAL talent.
Thankfully, Mr Konkoly is one of the latter (ie: someone with a genuine talent) and having completed the first book in the Black Flagged series I immediately logged on and bought the other three - even though they weren't 'on offer'. If you knew how tight I was and how much I genuinely struggle with shelling out cash on a 'virtual' product (there's just something about having the feel and weight of a REAL book in your hand) then you'd know that this is praise indeed!
Black Flagged is something that resembles an early Tom Clancy novel - strong, believable characters and a suitably twisting plotline, one which feels that it's backed up with at least a little research (albeit probably not to the levels that Clancy used to go to).

Only 4 stars because you have to read the other books in the series by this author to see how the story unfolds, Will suit other Black Ops nuts like myself.

3.0 out of 5 stars More Black Ops..... 22 July 2015
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Well it was a freebie so I thought I'd give it a try expecting to be disappointed....but I was quite surprised. The story moves along at a rate of knots and gets quite intriguing if not a little complicated at times. It is well written with some good action sequences. However I'm not sure how many of these secret "Black" departments I can take having been a fan of Vince Flynns "Mich Rapp" for a long time. Also this particular secret army, although claiming to be patriotic, appears to have no qualms about leaving behind them a hefty body count of FBI, CIA and even police officers in their trail and stop at nothing to get away. This is a disturbing trend......after all aren't they all on the same side? Because of this I doubt I shall read any more of the series.....nevertheless this was ok as a one off.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fast moving conspiracy thriller 14 July 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Someone told me about this book and then said they had been disappointed in it. Well, I decided to get my own copy and judge for myself. I can't say I was disappointed, but I can't say it held my interest in a gripping manner, or that I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story was okay, if run-of-the-mill in format - and the action sequences were pretty good, well set-out and described, but nothing extraordinary and I failed to attach myself to any of the characters emotionally, so if one was killed or injured - then what the heck... it's only a piece of fiction writing, a story, they're not real people. And that was the problem, I guess, I just didn't care what happened to any of them!
If you like FBI/CIA conspiracy thrillers then this might be worth a shot for a dollar or a pound.
