The product arrived promptly but the film cut very badly and so scenes appear totally disjointed. I was very disappointed with this product.

This is indeed the soft version - basically if an Emanuelle DVD has a UK or Australian 18 rating (or an American R rating) you will be looking at the soft verion - if you want the stronger XXX version of Black Emanuelle look for BLACK EMANUELLE--UNCUT INTEGRALE COLLECTORS EDITION, boxed as Emanuelle Nera (the original Italian title) - it has English dialogue too. If it says it's uncut or versione integrale snap it up!

Laurer Gemser had appeared in Emmanuelle 2 in a brief and touching scene.
Black Emanuelle is better then the Sylvia Krystal original which should in contrast to this be re named Slack Emmanuelle.
Laurer Gemser is promoted to lead actress in a brave move by the Filmmakers to boldly re define dominant Western notions of what is beautiful what is desired and what is sexy in a Women. European (and the American Maket) had never seen a star like Gemser before and there has been non one as uniquely alluring and attractive as her since. As Emanuelle she oozes sex appeal in each scene. A spell binding screen presence sustains the Filmmakers choice of leading lady.
Film History will dismiss Black Emanuelle as a cheap cash in on the unprecedented success(attached with a lot of intellectual excess) of Emmanuelle
Director and writer Bitto Albertini takes the sources concepts of free sexual adventure to a much higher level, setting the action in a misty African setting
amid mountains and the jungle he setts up a more liberating and unpredictable setting for his characters and stories. A surprisingly intelligent script(for Euro Soft Core) raises often unspoken questions about race and gender and whether a Women even in a liberated culture can enjoy the same free sexual exploration as a Man without being abused and having her character demeaned. The ravages of time have been much kinder to Black Emanuelle then Emmanuelle. Fans of soft core will be satisfied if they seek out the uncut cut whether you like this film will depend on whether you like the look of Laura Gemser since almost all of the action revolves around her.
With The relative success(sexess)there followed a number of sequels most of them directed by renowned(infamous) exploitation directer Joe D'Amato who added elements of gore and sadism into the series. Bitto Albertini;s Black Emmanuelle is a straight forward Erotic Adventure and is perhaps the best of the series;
