Intelligent Technology

When strimming, the ST5530 has an impressive 7500 rpm line cutting speed, and it also features AUTOSELECT edging technology which automatically slows the motor speed for maximum control and precision when edging. Designed to be used with the CM100-XJ Mower Deck (this can be purchased separately), an easy-to-attach, lightweight wheeled base, that allows you to use your strimmer like a mower, for easier and more consistent cutting in small gardens.

Saving time, effort and space

While offering both power and precision, the ST5530 also features Black & Decker’s innovative, automatic single line feed system AFS (Auto Feed Spool) to save you time and effort, and comes complete with a 9 metre spool in place. What’s more, with all the technology built in, the lightweight Black & Decker ST5530 only weighs 2.5 kg, making it ideal for storing up high or in smaller, less accessible areas.

It has come to my attention that a lot of things these days don't actually do what they claim to do. This strimmer however does. I it is fantastic. I have used it to strim a large area of unwanted vegetation for me to go over it with weed killer. Also used it to strim the grass that goes along the fence at the sides of our garden and it does these brilliantly. The rotating wheel is actually very useful. You just roll it along a fence of anything you want to strim up against something and it cuts it beautifully without you damaging the fence or the nylon wire. Speaking of which, the nylon wire blade thing whatever you want to call it, is very good quality. I did my entire garden with it without it going blunt of cutting itself off. It comes with a huge reel of it anyway. It is lightweight, has a great adjustable handle, its well made and very good value. It is very quite for a strimmer as well, doesn't scream like some I have heard. The cable could be a bit longer but if you have an extension lead which many of us who garden do, its not a problem. Black and decker stuff seems very good these days.

For 18 years I've used B&D electric strimmers in my rural garden until a couple of years ago when I made the mistake of purchasing the GL656 which wouldn't strim a blade of grass without the lines breaking. It sat in the shed waiting for someone with a degree in engineering and the patience to spend hours attempting to fit new strimmer lines until I decided it would be better to buy another rather than throw good money after bad.

Having read the reviews on the ST5530 I decided to take the plunge and I'm so glad I did. This model has the reliability and value for money the 1990s models had. It coped so well with the grass edging that I set it to work tackling this years new scrub growth (nettles, brambles and wide leafed weeds) beneath hedges and trees and around the walls backing onto open fields. It did the job brilliantly without the line breaking even once. I'm so delighted with it.

It's light, easy to fit the guard and handle and with the height able to be adjusted it takes a lot of the backbreaking work away.

I like the wheel for edging, am really impressed that it will edge happily right against a wall without the line breaking just like much earlier models did and I also find the motor powerful enough to tackle large areas without faltering.

If the strimmer line proves easy to replace I'll be delighted since the replacements are not half as costly as they used to be and the length of time they last appears to be improving.

Highly recommend this product, brilliant

Love this Strimmer, it is light and easy to use - and not very expensive. I have used a petrol one for years and have just got fed up filling it up, trying to start it (I'm worn out just doing that) and the string never comes out easily) The B&D just plug in and go - no hassle, and the string is easy to release then press the button and go again.

If you are looking for a quality well built electric no hassle strimmer then simply this is it.
Wheel attached for accurate edging, system slows itself down when in edging mode.
Four stars instead of five purely down to the length of the cord supplied which would not even allow me to cover the postage stamp of a front lawn - so do not forget the extension cable.

I had a B&D strimmer from about 25 years ago which had served me well but was getting tired and finally falling apart. First I bought a Ryobi hybrid so that I could wander freely without a cable but use mains on a long job. Read my review of it - it was feeble at 250w and was a costly mistake. This new B&D is the polar opposite. It is well made, light yet powerful and absolutely tears through the undergrowth including brambles, ivy and holly. It is fairly quiet and easy to use as it automatically feeds the line. I haven't tried it as an edger yet but the wheel is an inspired idea. It strikes me as fantastic value and it's well made and could easily last as long as the first one. Unless you have a really big garden where mains power is too inconvenient or you have really tough brush (then you need a brush cutter with a metal blade) I can recommend this unreservedly. You should always be protected using a strimmer and it particularly applies to this one as it is very powerful and throws up a lot of debris - be careful! I have just cleared a badly overgrown area in no time at all. I really can see myself using this a lot.

Having read all the previous reviews I ordered one. The strimmer was all assembled except for the guard and handle which were easy to fit. I then proceeded to cut my three lawns which had grown to about a foot high. The strimmer did the job. Very impressed. The cord didn't snap once and it was a pleasure to use. Highly recommended.

Great tool, the addition of the wheel which I was concerned might be a bit gimmicky actually makes edging long sections of lawn really easy, it also helps keep a suitable distance when trimming against walls & fences. very simple to use, straight out of the box.

I bought this as a replacement for a twin line Flymo. Its single line works better than the two line Flymo and so far have not had to spend ages adjusting the line that was such a chore with the other machine. In fact, in three lengthy uses I have not touched the line once. Easy to use and reasonably light, the only reason I don't give it top marks is the cord should be about a yard longer. It seems well made but only time will tell on that point.
