I have a tall hedge and have used an electric hedge trimmer via a ladder in the past. I thought I'd try a pole trimmer to see if it makes the operation safer. This one cannot handle the larger branches that the more powerful electric trimmer can, so fast growing ash poles needed to be cut separately, otherwise this trimmer worked wonders. It has better reach and the angled head made for easier cutting along the highest sections. In the end I used a combination of my electric and this one, but for most operations, I would recommend this unit. Any negatives? A longer cutting blade would have been nice. It began to stick in the "on" position almost straight away, so potential safety issue there and I had to tap it sharply to disengage. WD40 cured that. Overall it is a very useful addition to my garden equipment.

Looked for power & reach. This has the power & though I bought a 2nd battery, one charge lasted an hour of fairly steady cutting. Reach is good & angle adjustment helpful, but unextendable.
Cons: Heavy, not extendable & on/off switch awkward at certain cutting angles.
Overall: Will tax your strength if cutting at extended reach for longish periods, but power & battery seem v. good.
The handle with the On/Off switch shd be rotatable, to allow for different cutting angles
Well made & finished. Satisfied with the product.

I have had this machine for about 12 months now. At first I was concerned that 45-50 minutes running time between charges of the battery would not suffice. I need not have worried. I have just finished trimming a 156 foot long eleagnus hedge which is about 5.5ft high and some 8ft accross. I was able to complete the task without the battery running out and (largely) without recourse to having to stand on a stool. It cuts cleanly and without hesitation - in that regard it is better than either of the other two B & D electric hedge trimmers which I have and better than my Flymo hedge trimmer.
It is indeed well-balanced but because of its length it can impose quite a strain if held, otherwise unsupported, by one end with both hands. Generally speaking that hold can be avoided.
