Bought this last year. It's a great little machine. I have a medium sized garden with different types of hedges. Cuts the lot including small trees. The blades are very sharp and it chops 1cm branches with ease. I did think about getting a petrol cutter, but after trying the neighbour's realised that petrol machines are very heavy, noisy, expensive, difficult to start (especially once they are hot), need maintaining and are prone to failure. The only advantage would be the lack of wire - but a long extension is all I need. The GT501 is frankly just as good and so easy.

Black & Decker GT501 Hedge Trimmer 500wThis worked well for 30 minutes out of the box, sharp blades cutting through my beech hedge with ease on its annual trim. But then it started to cut out every yard of hedge, the blades jamming together with nothing evident as the cause. It hit a medium-sized twig and would leave the blades locked fast together. The only way to release the blades seems to be hitting them with a hammer from each side. I found this rather shocking in a Black and Decker product. I have bought them for 20 years and this is the first time that I have been let down. It is very depressing to face my 250 metres of beech hedges with such a flimsy bit of kit. As I type this,I can hear my neighbour's Bosch working perfectable.

very good hedge trimmer . the power is good enough to trim anything that can enter the 20 mm gap . the bigger gap is very helpful in trimming older hedges. its slightly shorter blade might make cutting thick hedges(1m or more thick) a little of an issue. otherwise its a very well balanced machine and a great price too.
