Fast easy pruning and safe to use, 11 April 2007
This review is from: Black & Decker GK1000 Alligator Powered Lopper 550 Watts (Tools & Hardware)
I am usualy wary of wacky looking garden equipment and prefer conventional tools. However this uniquie product really impressed me with its ease of use and fast clean cutting ability. Most of all it feels really safe to use - unlike most chainsaws which often cause the user to break out in a sweat or worry about chopping a limb off.
The Alligator jaws clamp around the branch and then only when you have pressed the 2 safety switches (one on each handle) the saw quickly cuts through branhces up to 4 inches. I found the cut was actualy cleaner if you used less pressure on the handles. Having 2 switches means the blade will only work when your hands are away from the dangerous parts and if you drop it or lose grip it will stop instantly.
Although the Alligator weighs about 4kg it is well balanced and does not feel heavy. If you dont have the stamina for prolonged sawing or want a fast easy job this is the tool for you.

A Handy Garden Tool, 29 Aug 2008
This review is from: Black & Decker GK1000 Alligator Powered Lopper 550 Watts (Tools & Hardware)
My local DIY store was selling these loppers off, so I bought one with a veiw to clearing a hedge area in my garden. I used it solidly for two days cutting a series of branches upto about 3 inches. This cutter made the job very simple and much easier than cutting by hand. As with any chain based cutter you need to oil and tighten the blade periodically and this is a really simple process.
The best feature is the clamps which also cover the blade, this gives a real feeling of safety because it makes it very hard to access the blade during use. It also has the added benefit of reducing the chippings given off, but I suggest that you still wear the safety gear.
The two handle design is also comfortable during use and I found it very light. It's and all round good piece of kit.

Perfect, 2 Aug 2009
This review is from: Black & Decker GK1000 Alligator Powered Lopper 550 Watts (Tools & Hardware)
My new toy, i love it, my Brother has 1 of these & he showed me how it works a year ago, i've wanted 1 since then but wasn't that keen on the price, (even though it's worth every penny).
I eventually bought it when it was on sale & i'm a happy bunny now.
I had some surplus plum trees to get rid of & lots of other fruit trees that need cutting back on a regular basis, this tool is just perfect for the job, (it's quite heavy so i can build up my muscles in the process of getting the work done ha ha).
I didn't want to get a chainsaw but knew that i'd need something in that line, this has a brilliant safety feature in that you have to hold both grips to make it work, so it's impossible to cut your hand off unless you have 3 hands.
You need to oil it after every 10 minutes of regular use (not a problem, it's easy to do & takes about 2 seconds) & they recommend that you buy their oil (they do supply about half of a small bottle, which is plenty to get started) i asked my Brother if i could get away with using just any standard 3-1 type oil & he said yes, in fact he said "any engine type oil will do, if it's good enough to run a car, it's good enough for this".
I can fully recommend this product.
