Amazon.co.uk Review

Needless and unnecessary are two words that have little meaning in Hollywood, especially when you're talking sequels or remakes. Case in point: Black Christmas, the revisionist version of the 1974 horror thriller largely thought to be the proto-slasher movie (this was four years before the first Halloween installment). The original, from director Bob Clark, is still considered a masterpiece of tension, understatement, innovative camera perspective, economic efficiency (a polite way of saying "ultra-low budget"), and killing off pretty young girls in grisly ways without any cumbersome exposition regarding the psychopath's motives. This, by the way, from the same Bob Clark who would soon bring us the beloved Porky's franchise as well as Black Christmas's polar opposite, the sweetly nostalgic classic A Christmas Story.

Anyway, as needless and unnecessary as this remake is, it certainly delivers the goods on 21st-century slasher conventions as the sorority sisters of Alpha Kappa are picked off during Christmas break in ever more gruesome fashion. There's nothing wrong with all of this, particularly for fans of impalements, crushed skulls, ripped-out eyeballs, and some good old-fashioned Christmas cookie cannibalism. Writer-director Glen Morgan, who earned his own credibility as co-creator of the Final Destination series and the interesting 2003 remake of Willard adds a few clever visual homages to the original along with the amped-up extreme gore. Clark's device (was he the first to use it?) of creepy, mouth-breathing phone calls from killer to victim remains intact and creepy. He also resurrects Andrea Martin, one of the then-unknown actor victims who, now famous, plays the prim housemother. Another addition, which may not be so welcome to purists of the genre, is a load of exposition and backstory for the killer. Disturbing as these flashback set pieces are, they're also somewhat distracting to the foreboding tone. But you get what you pay for, and lots of people are going to pay dearly to dream of the shocking frights another Black Christmas will bring. --Ted Fry

Absolute trash in every department and should never have been re-made.The 1974 version with Olivia Hussey and Keir Dullea was a far more exciting film and much tighter. The fact that the viewer DIDN'T see everything that was going to happen or knew who was responsible and had to guess a lot of what was going on and who was responsible for what added a lot to the films impact. Also the films actors COULD act unlike anyone in this film? They may call themselves actors but that for me at least is where their talent starts and ends!Kate Cassidy, Michelle Trachtenberg, Lacey Chabert and Co. need to go back to Acting School and learn the basics of their trade if they're thinking of making a career out of it?!

Black Christmas (2006) is a remake of Bob Clarke's 1974 horror movie Black Christmas. The movie involves about group of sorority girls and her mother who are to spent their christmas in a house that belonged to a demented serial killer known as Billy Lenz.
The remake is more bloodier than the original. This features bloody stabbings, dismembering, decapitating, devouring, eye-gougings and many more. And even eye eatings and flesh being cooked for dinner. I don't know what has been on BBFC's mind when they rated this "15". The violence isn't the only problem there's fair amount of sex and strong language. So be prepared to be ready what you are gonna watch you either like it or get grossed out.

The cast is awesome tough
Katie Cassidy (Harper's Island, A nightmare on elm street 2010)
Kristen Cloke (Final Destination)
Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Final Destination 3)
Michelle Trachtenberg (Buffy)
Lacey Chabert (Mean Girls)
Crystal Lowe (Final Destination 3, Wrong Turn 2)

I would reccomend this for fans of splatter and gore films and indeed for horror fans. Great to watch on christmas eve!

Result 4/5= Go and buy it if youre into horror

I just recently saw this movie, after reading a lot of negative

comments about this movie. I can say this movie is absolutly not as bad

as they say. Firstly you can not compare it to the original. Where the

original showed no gore and was creepy, this one is more entertaining and

gory!! Okay it is CHEESY, but it is hell of fun!!

Don't expect a solid story like SAW, but just open your minds and enjoy the ride to a fun slasher flick done 80's style.

Just bare in mind that the UK version is different to US version.

At least one murder is completely different and the end is also different!

So if you liked the movie, you maybe interested at giving a look at the American version! Enjoy!
