5.0 out of 5 stars All aboard!! 17 Mar 2013

Black Butler volume 11 contains chapters 48 to 52.
It is rated OT for older teens due to language and violence.

The first half of this volume reveals the truth about what happened in the previous two volumes.
In the second half, some very interesting characters return and a new arc begins!!

I haven't laughed this much for a long time! When it was showing Sebastian running around, I cried. That man is truly one hell of a butler!
I am VERY pleased with the return of some familiar faces. This is going to be an interesting arc!
The art is perfect as always. I love seeing Sebastian in different outfits and the expressions are amazing!

Volume XI starts as a recap of the previous Phantomhive Mansion Murder Mystery arc, as Sebastian and Ciel converse with the Professor (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, natch) in an attempt to tie up all of the loose ends. Well, it's better than some other manga recaps I've read, so let's see what questions it could answer.

Such as: how did Sebastian 'die'? What about that broken-up little glass phial? How did 'Reverend Jeremy' come into the picture? What happened with that owl Sebastian told Maylene release? And how did everything get arranged so that the other German guy staying at the mansion would be convicted? It's all a little bit contrived and a bit silly, but hey, that's Black Butler for you. There is worse yet to come, my friends. (And by worse, I mean zombies and Grim Reapers and swordfights and flashbacks aboard the Titanic. Or at least, an enormous sinking cruise liner.)

Then something rather amusing happens.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle starts prying a little too much, so Sebastian drops the little fact that he isn't quite human, and Ciel pretty much sics his demon butler on the poor bloke.

In his true form.

Now, what really tickles me is the conversation that Ciel and Sebastian have afterwards, which essentially boils down to:

Sebastian: "It's a good thing I scared the wits out of him, really."
Ciel: "Oh, and why is that?"
Sebastian: "I recall you liked his first work, A Study in Scarlet quite a lot."
Ciel: "Do go on."
Sebastian: "Writers are a very specific type of creature, Young Master. I presume an experience like that will make him pick up his pen and continue writing as soon as possible.

i really enjoyed this volume it was great you finally get to see the details and how the mystery with sebastians death is all solved and how he did it and that hes still alive it was a set up. Things get even more interesting when Elizabeth offers ciel a ticket to the Campania overseas. Stuff start to happen when ciel and sebastian are on a case called ressurection and its about a group whos ressurecting the dead and things dont turn out so smoothly.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing entry to the series 9 Mar 2013

This volume is the first one in the series that I was moved to write a review for. I generally don't like the story of the Titanic (well, it's not strictly the Titanic, but there are too many similarities to discount the thought), but this one brings some twists to an old plot. For Black Butler, this is an over-the-top volume, and it is full of surprises, and some laugh-out-loud moments. I especially like the way the mangaka built the tension to an almost unbearable point before springing the surprise ending. I recommend this volume to everyone who likes Victorian Goth (that's what I call it).
