The final chapters 24 Jan 2005
By Ben
Format:DVD
Black Books had everything. Hilarious, heart-warming, quirky characters you couldn't help but love. Bizzsre sub plots and situations that would always result in a great wave of laughter, such as the assassination of Mr Benson the cat, Manny and Bernard's childrens book, Manny working at a rivalling book store and the three friends endulging in a dancing competition. There are many classic moments, quotes and episodes that determine, this the third and final series of the acclaimed sitcom which superglue BLACK BOOKS ranking as one of the best comedies every produced. Fantastically funny stuff.

Utter, utter genius. Brief best bits Manny in full size worm suit, Bernard and Manny write the 'perfect' children's story, Bernard writing an essay on his betting slip not knowing how to fill one in, and the bizarre and off the wall - cocktail bar under the table in the resturant where Fran and Bernard order drinks!

Simon Pegg from Spaced and Shaun of the Dead fame is brilliantly funny and creepy in episode one as manager of Goliath books the shop next door where Shock Horror(!) Manny has gone to work in the easily funniest episode - Manny Come Home. This episode alone had me crying the others just add to the joy.

Bernard's cure for a cold - slug pellets and oven cleaner. Don't let the kids try that one.
"Bits of my brain are falling away like wet cake!" Bernard Black depressing comical genius from the superb Dylan Moran.

RO-WEEEEEEEENA! 17 Jan 2005
Format:DVD
Ok. Some people may see this series as a letdown, and I must confess that I was one of them, on first viewing. But when I decided to give it another go and watch it a second time, I got it. I'm not sure what I got, and I may consider going to the doctors' to sort it out, but whatever it was it was funny.

And the same goes for the extras, even if I was dissappointed not to find a commentary, 'cos they were ace on the first two DVDs.

And 'Party' was funny! Anyone who didn't think so is stranger than... well, they're odd. But watch 'Bernard's letter'. Classy stuff.

Let's just leave it at that.

One of the funniest British sitcoms ever
Channel 4 really messed up big time with the marketing of this series. It's a million times funnier than the Office, but it didn't get half as much publicity. Read more

Black Books 3
Perhaps the best series of them all. Dylan Moran, Bill Bailey and Tamsin Grieg are genuis'. The last ep in particular was wonderful.

Only one complaint. Read more

Funniest and Blackest Sitcom
I LOVE this show, loved it on first showing and even better second time round...the Moo-ma and Moo-pa episode especially!

More, please!
I have enjoyed the whole of this series. I was a little worried that by this, the third, that the humour would be losing it's edge, but no, it was as funny as ever. Read more

Still strong in Series 3, with great DVD extras
Many alternative British sitcoms are a spent force by the time they reach their third series, but this is not the case with Black Books. Read more

2 stars for the only good 2 episodes here
Dylan Moran is an amazing performer, he is one of the best not-working-enough actors around, and even he was bored here. Read more

Hilariously funny
This DVD boxed set I bought as a friend recommended that, as Father Ted fans, my family and I would enjoy it. I'm glad that I went on trust! We haven't (by a long chalk! Read more

Not bad.. but not as good as the last two series..
Worth a look for existing fans of Moran/Bailey madness, but this series lacks the edge of the previous two. Read more

Oh no it isn't a letdown!
No, it's on roughly the same level as the other two series. What excellent writers and actors. Why not treat yourself to the box set? Read more

Quit While They're Ahead
Jokes are always made about the third series of a comedy being the one that will either condemn the show or propel it further, and Black Books' own third series leans more towards... Read more
