I got the Roan box set at a cheap price on Amazon and was pretty impressed with the collection.
The Black Raven with George Zucco is a bit grainy but well watchable with a plot similar to an Old house type of film, it is fairly good with old shadows and a few murders along the way it has Glenn Strange playing a buffoon but is enjoyable.
The Black dragons was my favourite starring Bela Lugosi with a good supporting cast, it is a good film with plenty of twists but has some scenes which are a little far fetched but all in all its a good old pot boiler again due to the age of the film it isn't pristine but certainly watchable.
Bluebeard starring John Carradine is another good old film well worth watching with Carradine on good form as usual.
It goes along at a steady pace and adds to the collection well.
If you can get the set for under £7 its a great bargain you wont be disappointed although luckily I got mine for under £3 used.

Many editions of BLACK DRAGONS, BLUEBEARD and BLACK RAVEN available on public domain dvds but the best picture quality is on this Roan Group BLACK AND BLUE collection. You will need a multi region DVD player to view it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could make for an interesting play 22 May 2010
By bernie VINE VOICE
Format:DVD
We are treated to eavesdropping on a cabal of fifth column industrialist leaders snickering over their misdeeds.

So is this going to be a two dimensional sabotage movie where the good guys figure out whom the bad guys are just in time to save the bacon?

No. This is more insidious. It looks like the cabal has another secret that will be detected and corrected, not out of patriotism but revenge.

Can you guess the secret before it is played out?

Bela Lugosi gets to make his signature light on his eyes signature look.
Joan Barclay plays the love interest.

3.0 out of 5 stars IT'S NOT REALLY HORROR 21 Feb 2007
Format:DVD
I have this film is the 50 horror classics so I decided to watch it last night and it was ok but not brilliant as I found it was more of a thriller then a horror film. Bela Lugosi is his usual creepy self and that's always a good thing as that's what he is well known for.

The story is: It is prior to the commencement of World War II and Japan's fiendish Black Dragon Society is hatching an evil plot with the Nazis. They instruct a brilliant scientist, Dr. Melcher (Bela Lugosi) to travel to Japan on a secret mission. There he operates on six Japanese conspirators, transforming them to resemble six American leaders. The actual leaders are murdered and replaced with their likenesses.

I know its an old film but I thought the picture could have been cleaned up and the sound could of been remastered because every now and again you could hear a crackling sound and the voices would become muffled slightly and you could see bits of dirt and scratches on the film but as I said its an old film so its to be expected. Sometimes I like the dirt and scratches visible but only in silent films.

It wasn't really scary either but the role of Bela Lugosi was brilliant as always so I enjoyed the film but its not one of his best.

There are no special features on the version I watched so its just the film. All in all its a good film but it has nothing to raise it above ok.

Thank you for reading my review

2.0 out of 5 stars don't judge a book by it's cover 23 May 2009
Format:DVD
don't judge a book by it's cover is an old adage. and don't judge a dvd byit's case the cover and indeed the title promises something of the occult with dragons a prime ingrediant not so weak plot unbleivable twist at the end. fleeting glimpses of clayton moore aka the lone ranger and an uncredited appearance ofwilliam grogan who went on to star in better b movies
