Blackest of the back, darker than night........., 5 April 2006
This review is from: Black Aria (Audio CD)
Glen Danzig's 'Black Aria' is a breed apart from what he usually does and has done with his band Danzig or Samhain. Expect no guitar work here.., or vocals as such for that matter for what he's created here are dark eerie keyboard soundscapes that could I suppose be compared to that of early Mortiis and Cradle of Filths intro/instrumentals.
The music has a woeful epic feel to it with choirs of damned angels and dark majesty which takes you on a journey along the lines of Milton's 'Paradise Lost' depicting the fall of Heaven to rebel angels that comes across as something off a soundtrack.
At only 23:45 mins long Glenn hasn't gone overboard with this release and has just made it long enough for the listener to want to hear more and put it on again, this would indeed be nice with a few candles on and a glass of wine, or even as a Halloween soundtrack to get you into the spirit.
According to Danzig's website 'Black Aria II' should be due by now (apparently September the 19th) as it was scheduled for a summer 2006 release (obviously held back for some reason or another), this is indeed long awaited since 'Black Aria' was made in 1992 around the 'Danzig III; How The Gods Kill' era.
Anyway, if this sounds like your type of thing or if you're a massive Danzig fan give it a go and you might be pleasantly surprised.
