Biography

The last time most of us saw Doves it was Glastonbury Festival 2003, headlining Sunday night against Moby. This wasn’t really a problem for them though. The year before, they’d been mid afternoon, playing in glorious weather, a crowd of people wide-eyed at the prospect of whole weekend opening up in front of them to the soundtrack of Catch The Sun. On the Sunday night, under the ... Read more in Amazon's Doves Store

I heard this for the first time last night - Sky used it at the end of a football game (Newcastle United funnily enough!) and it blew me away! I got enough of the lyric to search for it today and it is their new single - what can I say apart from I want it now - I will be in a record shop at 0900 on 7th February to get this that's for sure
Fantastic stuff!!

Caught this song for the first time a couple of weeks ago on MTV. Fell in love with it straight away : the video is great too. Haven't heard any of The Doves stuff before, so I am not really sure how this compares to previous singles/albums, but I do know that this is a brilliant track and I can't wait for it to be released!!!!!!! Also looking forward to the new album...will be buying that too, even if it's just for this one track! Go and buy it now!!!!!!!!

Seriously. I can't think of another single yet released in the 00's that can top this driving, Jam- meets Kinks - meets Madness gem of a rocker. It starts off with a pounding one-two-beat, then a piano riff kicks in, then the lugubrious vocals with just the right note of impudence and contempt, and the chorus blasts in with the right energy and some twanging guitar licks that will have even deafmutes tapping their feet and snapping their fingers. I can't speak for the Doves albums, but this track delivers rock greatness in spades. Get it !

The Doves comeback has never come a better time, mixing a different assaulting urban sound and crunching guitar riffs with this uplifting, and energetic new track. They have clearly shown wisdom as a kind of fabricated rejuvenation of vocals by Jimmy Goodwin, nice turbo-charged thrilling guitar sounds and ecliptic drumming sets a new journey for the band that are on a quest with the real Manchester scene. This single certainly makes you feel that you are at the music heart of their home town through its powerful melody.

Not a great single, very far removed from previous b sides 4 Aug. 2010
By D B Crisp - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
The b sides here are quite heavy in comparison with previous single releases. 45 sounds like an early 90's garage indie band with too much distortion on their guitars. Eleven miles out even features Jez using curse words, very very odd and does not seem to fit well.

Pretty poor effort but one for the completist and you get the video for BWT.
Good single to compliment cd 2 4 Aug. 2010
By D B Crisp - Published on Amazon.com

Black and white town were a lot of main stream listeners first glimpse of doves, a good song but not a starting point.

At the tower sounds like it should be on the soundtrack to a western remake. Excellent song and much more stronger sounding than most of their soft or electro heavy bsides.
Excellent 26 Mar. 2005

Great song from a great album. Kinda reminds me of Swervedriver mixed with Mercury Rev. If you like either of those excellent bands, you will probably like this. Unbelieveable how good alot of the UK bands are, and how they are virtually ignored here. Like these guys.
Simple review of both singles 4 Aug. 2010
By D B Crisp - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Buy cd 1 (black cover) simply for at the tower, a terrific b side.

Buy cd 2 (white cover) for the video, the 2 b sides are nothing really spectacular however.
