Fascinating Box Set 20 Aug 2007
Format:DVD
The best way to understand Bjork is to see her perform her songs live. And this really nice four disc box set does just that.
It's quite interesting to see not only her songs come alive, but to see her performance develop.

Disc 1: VESSEL
This goes back to the Debut era - and has 11 live tracks on it:
Human Behaviour/ Atlantic (a song that is really difficult to get hold of) / One Day/ Venus As A Boy/ Come To Me/ Anchor Song/ Seroplane/ Big Time Sensuality/ There's More To Life Than This/ Violently Happy/ Crying

In between each track Bjork - has some interesting film footage on her viewpoint on music and life in London. There is a harmless feeling of naivety about it all which is quite sweet. This is the 'Bjork' that everyone always thinks of. However the other discs show her quite differently...

Disc 2: 'Shepherds Bush Empire'
This goes back to her 'POST' era. Track listing is:
Headphones/ Army Of Me/ One Day/ The Modern Things/ Venus As A Boy/ You've Been Flirting Again/ Isobel/ Possibly Maybe/ I Go Humble/ Big Time Sensuality/ Hyperballad/ Enjoy/ Human Behaviour/ Anchor Song/ I Miss You/ Crying/ Violently Happy

This is a straight forward live performance - and is abit of a party really. It's really big on sound and creative arrangements and quite volatile in some ways. Her performance is quite steely and interesting.

Disc 3: Cambridge
This is during her 'Homogenic' period. Tracks are:
Hunter/ Come to Me/ All Neon Like/ You've Been FLirting/ Isobel/ Immature/ Play Dead/ Alarm Call/ Human Behaviour/ Bachelorette/ Huperballad/ Pluto/ Anchor Song/ Joga

This includes a big string section and is quite fascinating to watch, as her performance feels a little isolated and lonely. It's filmed with less intimacy then her other DVDs, and she seems at her most vunerable here.

Disc 4: Royal Opera House
Recorded during 'Vespertine' era. Tracks are:
Frosti (actually it's Pagan Poetry on music box)/ Overture/ All Is Full Of Love/ Aurora/ Undo/ Generous Palmstroke/ An Echo. A Stain/ Hidden Place/ Cocoon/ Unison/ Harm Of Will/ It's Not Up To You/ Pagan Poetry/ Possibly Maybe/ Isobel/ Hyperballad/ Human Behaviour/ Joga/ It's In Our Hands

This is my favourite one of the lot. It's a really big DVD with loads of extras about the tour. The performance itself is also marvellous. Not only is their another orchestra, but an Icelandic choir and the marvellous band Matmos. It is amazing to see the kind of noises that are created out of different objects. And her glorious performance of Hypberballad has got such an adrenalin rush!

It's got a really nice sleeve to hold it all in and if you want to spend a few hours watching a very interesting creature in different guises then what better to watch then this. But at the end of it all - the music is the main thing. And it's wonderful!

sweet 20 Jan 2011

This is my Bjork bible in dvd form. The vespertine dvd was so interesting - how she wanted the album to be made of tiny sounds, magnified. I did a project on my Art Foundation, using one of her songs from this album (made a map of dreams in paper and sculpture form), and this was such a good reference guide to me understanding more about her work. I say her work, as she is so much more than just a recording artist - she somehow manages to use her voice as a percussive tool, and makes sounds out of non-conventional instruments. Also, it is nice hearing about how she found the choir from Greenland for backing singers. Bjork is such a unique and talented human being (she's almost non-human!), I would definitely recommend buying this if you are a fan and want to know more about her work.

Bjork "Boxed and Beautiful" 22 Aug 2010
By Tom Reed - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this primarily because I didn't have any of the discs... I'm a "new" fan of BJORK and have quickly fell under her spell... Each one of these concerts is Great in it's own right... But together as a set, you get a broad range of her musical development... If you've maybe got one of these discs, it would probably still be cheaper than buying the other 3 seperately... Plus you'd have the "extra one" to maybe start a new fan out on their way... I really tried to find out about the DOL format and finally gave up.... So I just bit the bullet and left it to fate as to whether or not it would play in my DVD deck.... I'm happy to report that they are all, save one, dual discs (1 side PAL and 1 side NTSC) the last one (R.O.H.) was NTSC standard.... So no problem.... Whew!!! The packaging is decent enough, but nothing to write home about... It's what's inside that matters...
Kinda sounds like I'm talking about my................
