Sean Penn likened Bardem's performance to Marlon Brando's performance in Last Tango in Paris. (Last Tango in Paris put me to sleep...so...I'm not sure what to think!)
Still, Alejandro González Iñárritu's film, Biutiful, is amazing--perhaps the best film I saw from 2010. And yes, I wept (but not like a grandmother). Now...on to the music:
Gustavo Santaolalla's music always moves me. And his collaborations with Iñárritu serve as the glue in their outstanding films. Santaolalla's score, as expected, is "biutiful" in every sense of the word, and luckily, this two-disc collection features a plethora of his music. This collection also features the other tracks that appear in the film. Disc one is a "soundtrack" and disc two is "bonus Santaolalla music." (I prefer the first disc, but the second disc is also wonderful (albeit a little more melancholy than the first disc).)
If you're a fan of Santaolalla's powerful, hypnotic music, don't hesitate to relive Uxbal's experiences through this wonderfully touching score/soundtrack. Life is truly "biutiful" when we fill it with beautiful music.
