Underrated,
This review is from: Bittersweet (Audio CD)
Blu's sophomore masterpiece "BitterSweet" is the best CD in my collection. To describe each song in one word I would say they were flawless. The album begins with the uplifting "I Love You". This song is a dedication to a loved one... Track 2 flips the script a little with the slower song, "Sleep In The Middle". It is one of my favourites on the CD. It has so much emotion and depth - something which is lacking in most of the present-day R'n'B. This is the ultimate ballad of all time! "Unhappy" is more gentle than the previous tracks. It is all about Blu's man who is (as the song title states) unhappy. - Another very deep, very sensitive piece from Miss Cantrell. The next cut from BitterSweet is the distinct collaboration "Impatient". Lil' Kim and Fat Joe each throw in a hot verse as Blu yearns for her relationship to progress. Following Impatient is the U.K. #1 hit "Breathe" featuring man-of-the-moment Sean Paul. The song was a global smash, and no wonder why! - Blu (who co-wrote the song herself) manages to combine her amazing vocal abilities with the Dr Dre sample and reggae flavour. "Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!)" was Blu's first ever single. It was another world-wide chart-topper and here it has been slightly altered for her new LP. I love the irony bought by the song's subtitle; "Oops!". Track 7 is the beautiful "Risk It All". This song has a perfect melody matching it's engaging lyrics. Next up is the mournful "Don't Wanna Say Goodbye" (co-written by soul-legend Stevie Wonder). The music fits the song perfectly. Taken from "So Blu", "All You Had To Say" is an edition to BitterSweet. It is all about a guy who was triflin' thus, Blu had to get rid! Track 10 is the enlightening "Happily Ever After". - Blu definitely deserves this fairy tail ending. "Holding On To Love" has a dreamy vibe about it, the song presents Blu caught up over some man. Another song from Blu's debut album, this time in the form of "Swingin'". It is a very jazzy-snazzy, fun tune. Suitable for the dance floor! Track 13 is "Let Her Go". Here is a strong R'n'B joint - extremely catchy! "Round Up" was originally Lady May's song. It was released in the U.S. but the album never reached stores. The Thelma and Louise style video was great! I really like the country-western theme! We now come to the second release off BitterSweet, "Make Me Wanna Scream". I prefer this more dancehall version (featuring Ian Lewis) than the video one. Hot for the clubs definitely! Last, but no means least, is "No Place Like Home". Everyone can relate to the message in this song. Yet another success! Blu Cantrell is definitely the most talented out there. She is under appreciated and I hope you heed my advice and cop this CD. Every song on here I love. Her voice is beyond belief and in every track you hear that. I never have to skip a song when I listen to this album, they are all perfect AND unique. If you enjoy this then get her first release, "So Blu" I wish Blu all the luck in the world... She is a legend!

Blu Cantrells Bittersweet is the bomb of albums! It is my favourite album of all time and that is a record that is hard to beat.Right ok then the songs:I Love You:An excellent upbeat feel good song that opens the album excellently. Sleep In The Middle:The amazing big ballad of the album which will make your spine tingle at the massive note Blu hits! The best song on the album. Unhappy:A slow song which is similar to Sleep I The Middle.Good heart felt song. Impatient:A star studdded song that features Lil Kim and Fat Joe.Hypes the album up quickly with a great rhythm. Breathe:Another great Hip Hop and RNB mix with Sean Paul. Hit Em Up Style (Oops!):Angry Blu at her best in this song which says no regrets to wrong doers! Risk It All:A slow song which slows the album down but still happy! Dont Wanna Say Goodbye:A great ballad with amazing backing vocals and shows Blus Voice well. All You Had To Say:Jazzy up beat song that also has a feel good factor. Happily Ever After:Great up beat song which perfectly captures the Happily Ever After scenario!! Holding On To Love:Slow song which is kinda similar to I Love You.Great voice morphing on this song! Swingin:Club song that really can be danced and sung to! Let Her Go:Up beat song that focuses on the bad bits of love.Blus voice is strong on this song. Round Up:Not much of Blus singing in this song but still a club style good! Make Me Wanna Scream:An angrly Blu features on this song which has Ian Lewis as a great bit of Rap. No Place Like Home:A fantastic and true song to close the album which might leave you thinking. A great album that has not quite had the recognition it deserves. My favourite album that I always listen to!!!

A Really Great Album,
By Annie "The Book Hour" (Scotland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bittersweet (Audio CD)
I bought this album on sale, I didn't really like her singles, but it was an impulse. And I haven't regretted it. It's full of catchy, beat-interesting songs. Think a 'swing' version of Monica and you're somewhere in the ballpark. It's more soul than R&B and more Hip Hop than Jazz. It's an album you put on to make you feel happier, definitely written for women listeners. I would definitely repeat purchase this album if I lost mine. I love both 'Swinging' and 'Breathe' - both very different tunes, the different styles on this album (of music) are vast!
