“Just cause you got the monkey off your back doesn’t mean the circus has left town.” – George Carlin
Poor Livy. Being a honey badger shifter is really the pits sometimes. Let’s take her father’s funeral.

“So how did it go?

“Fistfight on the casket. Poisonous snakes in the backyard. My father’s ex-girlfriend head-butted by my mother… The usual really.”

Wow. Growing up in a family known for being enemies to … well … everyone, isn’t actually all that easy. Especially when you have no interest in learning the finer skills of pickpocketing at age three or how to best break in to a safe, steal the swag and get away clean by the time you are a preteen. Huh. Livy isn’t interested in the family business of breaking every local, state, federal and international robbery law on the books – she just wants to be a photographer. And she is a really good one at that. But family business rears its ugly head, no matter how carefully Livy tries to stay away. And her father’s death will lead to a return to the family business, will she or nil she. Thank goodness she has good friends to back her up. And, believe it or not, her family as well. Of course, when her old friend Vic, a bear-tiger hybrid, shows up along with his friend and sometimes business partner Shen, the giant panda, things get even stickier.

Livy: “Your feline is showing.”
Vic: “Because you’re not being rational and there’s an eight-foot four-hundred-pound whiny baby over there begging me to claw the holy s*** out of him.”

Polar Bear Hockey Player (and aforementioned whiney baby): “You are Rude!”

Livy has no interest in a ‘relationship’ with anyone – especially when said hybrid makes her insides feel funny. But sometimes what we want and what we need are very different.

BITE ME is book 9 in Shelly Laurenston's "Pride series".i am a fan of this author and in this latest installment the author does not disappoint.this author really is consistent.
story:
Livy Kowalski has no time for idiots. When you shapeshift into a honey badger, getting through life's irritants is a finely honed skill. Until she gets stuck housing her nutso cousin and dealing with her dad's untimely and unexplained demise. That's where Vic Barinov comes in - or his house does. Vic can't step outside without coming back to find Livy devouring his honey stash and getting the TV remote sticky. It gets his animal instincts all riled up. But he'll have to woo her at high speed: all hell is breaking loose, and Livy is leading the charge...
review:
there is a good storyline and action in this book and it flows beautifully without those annoying pauses.however, the standout point for me is the humor, not only from the heroine, but her entire dysfunctional family. i honestly couldn't stop laughing or smiling throughout. vengeful honey badgers, ex-con and mafia type family members, some of whom are on the run and in safe houses, add in a hunky capable hero and what's not to love?
if you like paranormal romance with a good story,a lot of humor and wit this one's for you.i would highly recommended and will say that this could be read as a stand alone novel. however, this series is brilliant and i would urge people to read it!
series order:
1. The Mane Event (2007)
2. The Beast In Him (2008)
3. The Mane Attraction (2008)
4. The Mane Squeeze (2009)
5. Beast Behaving Badly (2010)
6. Big Bad Beast (2011)
7. Bear Meets Girl (2012)
8. Wolf with Benefits (2013)
9. Bite Me (2014)

Honey badger Livy Kowalski was introduced in book 8 "Wolf With Benefits" and I couldn't wait for her to take a lead role. She is one of the meanest heroines ever created, yet she maintains the ridiculous level of likeability this author somehow incorporates into a leading lady who can and will tear your face off.

Victor Barinov is another unique hybrid; grizzly bear and Siberian tiger. Unlike previous romances in this series, there is no immediate heated attraction between him and Livy. Instead Vic suddenly finds himself unexpectedly thinking about Livy at odd times and acknowledging the fact he finds her company surprisingly tolerable. Livy in turn has no intention of falling in love after witnessing her parent's volatile relationship but finds Vic equally tolerable. Perhaps if the somewhat straitlaced logical Vic can survive a honey badger invasion when Livy calls in family favours, he may just survive falling in love with a woman whose crazy family embraces (and excels in utilising) their criminal tendencies.

This book is hilarious; which cupboard will Victor find a naked honey eating Livy in next? What's going on with his tail? What on earth do the Kowalski and Yang honey badger clans have planned and where are all the snakes coming from? Yet amongst the abundance of humour is an exciting story line with plenty of action, drama and heartbreak. This is one of my most favourite books in this wonderful series so far and this author has jumped up several paces in my favourite author list.
