Product Description

Review

'To their way of thinking, what made it possible to desire a man or a woman was simply the appetite that nature had implanted in man's heart for 'beautiful' human beings whatever their sex might be.' Foucault, The Use Of Pleasure

Product Description

In our cutting edge western society, bisexuality has come to mean simultaneously a password to popularity and success in the media, a slur meaning any number of negative, normally promiscuous attributes, and a vague, undefined category of sexual preference that encompasses a very mixed bag. The introductory essay in this book highlights civilisations where bisexuality has flourished, and goes on to showcase the lives of more than 100 famous bisexuals like Alexander the Great, Sappho, Cassanova, Marquis de Sade, Oscar Wilde and Virginia Woolf.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dire, just dire, 9 July 2007
This review is from: Bisexuality (Pocket Essentials) (Paperback)
This is waste of your cash. Badly researched, confused, bringing in bits and pieces of 'world culture' in a classic pop culture way. There are one or two interesting biographies, but omissions such as not realising that Death in Venice was largely based on Mahler. You have to be concerned when the internet is named as a big research helper - useful though it is, you need to do a lot more work than rely on just the web for a book like this.

This really is a wasted opportunity.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money., 28 Sep 2006
By Monkeyboy - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Bisexuality (Pocket Essentials) (Paperback)
What a terrible, terrible book. This first part is supposedly a discussion of bisexuality; it consists of little more than bizarre non sequitors, wanders all over the place and keeps returning to eunuchs and transvestites. Very little discussion of what bisexuality IS. The bulk of the book consists of short, 1-page biographies of famous people who may or may not have been bisexual -- there is little to no evidence or even rumor presented in many of the entries. Don't waste your time or money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid, 22 Jun 2011
By R. L. Whittington - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Bisexuality (Pocket Essentials) (Paperback)
I totally agree with the other review. Almost no info on what bisexuality is, hearsay and more gender politics than sexuality.
