With Surf Instrumentals From 1959 - 1965 This Follows On From The Birth Of Surf.,

This review is from: The Birth Of Surf Volume 2 (Audio CD)
The original compilation The Birth Of Surf from 2007 was a superb collection of surf music from the comparatively well known to hardly heard of artists of this genre.
Volume 2 continues with the same high standards with The Ventures, Dick Dale & His Del Tones, The Original Surfaris etc. Then there are the less known artists like The Astronauts, The Trashmen, The Pyramids and many others with that distinctive surf guitar sound played with energy and speed. Only track 26 Theme From The Endless Summer by The Sandals is a slower track. I suggest inquirers try the original album and if it clicks, add this on ASAP.

The Surf movement grows up,

If volume 1 whetted your appetite for American surf guitar music then this 2nd companion will keep you happy for an hour. The surf music phenomenon really lasted between 61-65 and the tracks here prior to that date such as the Rockin' Rebels, Ventures and Wailers give you a taste of what these teenagers were listening too when they first took up a guitar. The Revels 'Church Key' was not a surf record but many surf bands took to playing it and re-shaping it for the genre. The frantic, Busters track was also a small hit yet the popularity of groups such as Dick Dale and The Surfaris eluded them 45 hits and the tracks here were from popular albums that charted. Groups that had a single hit are represented by solid misses from the Chantays and the Astronauts, the latter had the full up-top-date facilities of RCA Victors' studios wheras many of the lesser known bands made their records in small, local studios. The compilation flows well as it was compiled by experts who have trodden this path before. The disc closes with the dreamy guitar of The Sandals with their theme from the popular movie 'Endless Summer'. It may have been 1965 but the surf party was never really over. It re-emerged during the 80s with new groups and where some of these 60s bands reformed to create their magic over again. By the 90s a new wave of garage-surf was emerging. Even today groups are performing this wonderful music.
