5.0 out of 5 stars Honest, personal, informative and inspiring 14 Jun 2013

As a midwife and childbirth educator, I would strongly recommend this book. The honest, personal and relaxed writing style is engaging and enjoyable! The birth stories and the information shared by the author on key aspects of natural childbirth, such as the fear-tension-pain cycle are interesting and useful. A great read for any mums to be and for any midwives or childbirth educators looking for inspiration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informal yet really eye opening! 14 Jun 2013
By Lilo
Format:Kindle Edition
I was looking for a birth book for my terrified of giving birth friend & stumbled upon this. I wish I'd found this when I was pregnant..the author uses humour and great knowledge to put across that birth does not have to be scary. She reminds us that the female body is built for this task but if it does become too hard then it's ok to have intervention. In a society where everyone's trying to be superwoman & compete, this non-judgemental book is just what we need. Lovely honest birth stories too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have 14 Jun 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
It definitely fills some gaps that currently exist in the general public's knowledge about childbirth. Giving a realistic but positive outlook, and steering away from fear and pain, as well as from happy-go-lucky views, is the way forward.
Very useful for pregnant ladies, but also for those that already have children.
I couldn't agree more.. Birth ROCKS!

3.0 out of 5 stars not convinced 7 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm pregnant with my first and thought I'd do a bit of background reading. This had good reviews and I like yoga so I thought 'why not.' I know this is supplementary to the birth rocks programme but by the 5time birthROCKS had been plugged I was beginning to get a little annoyed. (Raging hormones don't forget). About halfway through I also got fed up with the 'real life' stories-I only needed a few to understand the point that any number of things can happen and that you need to be prepared to change your birth plan so I skipped the rest. Selfishly, I was reading this book to help me prepare for the birth I might experience, not to ooh and ahhh over other peoples birthing stories. (My hormones again?) there was some useful information in the book, but I think I'll buy a different one and I can't see me re-reading this one. Sorry ladies-this just wasn't for me. I wanted practical advice and that was outweighed by blatant plugging of birth ROCKS and italicised, romanticised birthing stories.

Format:Paperback
Cheryl's fantastic down to earth and honest book is a must have for any mummy to be! The book sits snugly in the middle of hynobirthing and more factual reads on birth and provides the perfect information and real life stories to help any mummy to think differently about their birth. Loved it!
