A brilliant follow-up to Birmingham Past and Present: In My Father's Footsteps and with mostly colour photographs. It will either bring back memories or provide a fascinating view of what the city used to be like before you remember it. Or a bit of both as in my case. It is sometimes sad to see what has been demolished, or in the case of the 1960s concrete Bull Ring quite delightful to see what has been demolished! I bought three copies, one for myself and two for gifts along with Mark's first book which I already owned. I knew how much I'd enjoy it but was also confident of how it would be appreciated as a gift. Whether the recipient picks it up for ten minutes and flicks through the pictures every now and then or puts aside a couple of hours to soak up the atmosphere and read the well-written research and observations about each scene it will definitely prove interesting.
