Product Description

Product Description

A photographic identification guide to 500 southern African bird species, this book replaces our "Photographic Guide to Birds of Southern Africa" in a more user-friendly format and covers double the number of birds. Distribution maps and an 'occurrence bar' depicting months in which the birds can be seen are added features. Emphasis is on quick identification in the field.

About the Author

Ian Sinclair is renowned for his extensive field experience and expertise in identifying birds. He has authored and co-authored more than 15 highly successful bird books, among them Field Guide to Birds of Southern Africa (Struik, 1984), Sasol Birds of Southern Africa (Struik, 3rd edition 2002) and Birds of Africa south of the Sahara (Struik, 2003). He is recognised as one of Africa's most experienced birders, and one of its foremost bird authors.

Great book for a novice birder 26 Sep 2010
By Margaret L. Vanhemert - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I needed a bird guide book for a recent trip to Botswana, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. The photographs and descriptions were really helpful. We saw over 100 different species of birds, and I photographed most of them. I was able to identify the birds and label all my photographs with this little gem. It is small enough to carry easily in your day pack.

By Joan Rogers - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
We'd been to Namibia and our tour Guide had the Birds of Southern Africa Pocket Guide. My friend is very interested in Birds and found the book easy to use and very informative. I bought it for her as a present.
