4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Difficult, 11 July 2004
By
Mr. Andrew Parker "andy_p_" (West Yorkshire) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Birds in Origami (Paperback)
I have recently started doing origami and thought it would be good to learn how to make birds. However this book has designs in it that are currently too hard for me to make which is a little frustrating. I can however make some of the designs and they are very nice and do actually look like the things they are supposed to look like which is always good.
Only buy this book if you are fairly competent with paper folding otherwise, like me you will be stuck on page 4.

4.0 out of 5 stars A lovely book full of intermediate origami designs, 29 Nov 2007
This review is from: Birds in Origami (Paperback)
What this book doesn't give you:
A lot of teaching. It does list the basic folds, but other than that you're pretty much on your own.
Beautiful photographs of the models. Not even on the cover. You have to make your own before you know what they'll really look like.

What this book does give you:
15 designs for origami birds with increasing levels of difficulty. These birds are (in order) a duck, a swan, a goose, a flamingo, a pelican, a heron, a pheasant, a seagull, a hummingbird, a cardinal, a cormorant, a stork, an eagle, a canary and a parrot.
All designs fit in the 'intermediate' category, although the duck is much simpler than the others and the parrot is definitely high intermediate.
The book has clear diagramming with occasional explanatory phrases. The designs are well-thought-out and the models look good when folded.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good collection of bird models, 28 Feb 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Birds in Origami (Paperback)
This is actually a good collection of Montroll's birds. I find folding Montroll's birds a good break from some of the more complicated models and the book's price can't be beat. There are 15 models of birds consisting of a Duck, Swan, Goose, Flamingo, Pelican, Heron, Pheasant, Seagull, Hummingbird, Cardinal, Cormorant, Stork, Eagle, Canary, and Parrot. Although if you are looking for a book to get you started in Origami I would suggest "Teach Yourself Origami" which is a great book to work your way into Origami and Montroll's models.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good intermediate origami book, 2 Jan 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Birds in Origami (Paperback)
To desing origami birds is much easier than animals or insects, especially for expert folders. So in this book Montroll gives us some easily constructed birds. This thin book is a good textbook for intermediate folders.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice origami book, 11 Oct 2005
By Gillian Buchanan "Classical Music Editor at B... - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Birds in Origami (Paperback)
This book contains a collection of fifteen original origami models by John Montroll. They are really for the intermediate level paperfolder who has mastered the techniques of inside and outside reverse folds along with some squashing and collapsing techniques and who can fold reasonably accurately.

There are no photographs of finished models, but the computerised diagrams are clear and the models are attractive when made up. This would make a nice gift and anyone who enjoys Montroll's work will like the book.
