WE MUST ALL READ THIS BOOK, 30 July 2004
By Goodbye "Mr P" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Bird Table (Charnwood Library) (Hardcover)
It's easy to tell whether the writer is up to much from the opening paragraph. I knew this writer would deliver even from thr first sentence. His writing just has that element of true class.
I liken him to Scott Turrow because in the main he tackles more than the sterotypical lawyer/police routine. I would put J Davies in the same class.
What he does so very well is take us into a court providing believeable and insightful court dialogue:the whole psycholgy and craft of the barrister is displayed and laid bare. It is truly a wonderful experince to be led by the hand into this new and dramatic world.
I had the sense of the writer as I read this book - he came across as one possessing a very finely tuned appreciation of words, emotions and character.
I liked the way he dealt with the preening and false world of Sally the over achiving barrister, contrasting this with the more down to earth and secure Jeremy Scott - the on the surface journeyman lawyer.
The book is redolent with messages - one of the main themes is that we must never sell our souls for a society that spits us out with no appreciation for our efforts. Never give in to falsity when the love of our family is at stake.
A great great read. I must get all of his others.
Jonathan Davies has mastered the art of writing legal fiction.
