I wanted an external hard disk to backup my photos and this fitted the bill. It is small but transfer time is fast. It took about 60 minutes to backup 41GB of data which isn't bad. The backup software has the option to only back up files that have changed but this doesn't seem particulary efficient since it took 30 minutes to determine that only one file needed updating.
One word of caution, you need 2 USB ports, one for the power supply and one for the data link.

Small, light - fits in my handbag! Work doesn't give me enough room on the network, so now I just plug this is for all the room I need. Its really quiet, and so far has been reliable. My only criticism is that the flimsy case supplied is already beginning to split: but at this price I wasn't expecting much of the case anyway.

Update: 11/02/12

Was previously really happy to recommend - however, it seems it really wasn't built to last as (even though I bought a hard case to protect it) three months later is has crashed and can't be re formatted; in short it is knackered. NOT HAPPY TO RECOMMEND.

What you're actually buying is an external hard drive enclosure with a separate hard drive of the specced size added for you. This in itself is fine but the packaging is all labelled up as being just the enclosure which is a tad confusing at first.

More importantly.. I bought two of these at the same time and in both cases the enclosure part is slightly broken - it's held together by a small screw on each side of the case. On one side the plastic tab into which the screw screws is broken so it has to be taped shut to stay together properly

Quick review: Perfect size, looks nice, compatible, quiet and doesn't overheat.

I needed a portable hard drive to store university work and other media on, and since I didn't want to get another memory stick (I keep loosing them), I decided to get a hard drive. However, I didn't want a hard drive that was too bulky to carry around in my bag, so I was cautious when looking around.

I ended up buying this; the Bipra portable hard drive, and I can say that I'm 100% satisfied.

It's small enough to fit in my bag without taking up too much room, but isn't small enough to loose easily; it's only a bit bigger than my iPhone! It came with a leather case, at which I was relieved, since it would save it from scratches in my bag!

I've had no problems with this; I just plugged it in and it was ready to go! I use it on both my Mac and PC, and it works fine.

It also came with a mini screwdriver which my dad has pinched and I haven't seen it since (I wouldn't have used it anyway), but it's handy for someone who's familiar with tech and wants to see what's inside.

The case is nice; it looks smart and isn't a fingerprint magnet!

If you're looking for a portable hard drive that's a perfect size, doesn't make loud noises and doesn't overheat, then get this!

A no nonsense, straight forward - portable hard drive.

It comes with around 600GB of usable storage, and works as soon as you connect the device to your windows machine (after automatically installing drivers). Within a minute I was backing up my files and copying libraries of music/videos.

The packaging of the device is nice, including a small leather-pouch which doesn't prohibit use, even whilst on the device. Having just got it, I consider it: quiet and albeit cool (temperature-wise) considering I transfer in bulk. It's transfer rate averages about 14mbps and has a small blinkering green light that flickers during transfers (otherwise remains on - not distracting or too bright, solved when you turn the device away). Well built from initial feel though only time will tell how long the device functions for.

Unnecessarily, there does seem to be a button on the device (next to the green light with the letters "OTB", and a port for a power cable (that also comes included) that are not essential for general its use.

Nonetheless I am impressed as the cheap price is covered by an extra Gigabyte (and a half) of storage and cables are all included (even a disc for pre- installation to Windows 98). Compared to other devices in this price range it is a good deal - UNLESS your system can handle USB 3.0 transfers... If possible, look into your machine and see if the ports support USB 3.0 which will enable quicker file transfers.
(This device and cable is limited to USB 2.0 which is currently still popular/standard on mobile and laptop devices)

Hope this was helpful :)

Pleased to say that this product arrived complete & ready to go... Simply plug into the computer & that's it. It's silent, quick & looks really smart. It can take a second or 2 when opening folders over 15GB, but you don't really notice it. All in all a fine hard drive, worth every penny :)

(Please note that it says requires '2 USB PORTS'... And it means 2 USB PORTS! I have a 4 way USB adaptor and that wasn't enough. One usb is the power & the other is the usb for the data. However i've used a usb plug charger to power it, so now it only uses 1 usb port. Also, if it clicks then you've not connected it properly)
