if you plan on buying the series, you don't need to buy this as episode 1 is the pilot, as for the series 8 episodes long, review on it after Im done with it.

This review is from: Bionic Woman - Pilot Episode [DVD] (DVD)
This so called re make, or re visualisation of the original series The Bionic Woman from the mid 1970s just is not that good at all. It is easy to find fault if you start to compare this series to the original. But even if you look at it on its own merits it fails to impress. Both the original and this pilot for a new series are far fetched and some will regard as silly nonsense. But this version, for me, suffers from trying to make it more serious.
I feel that everything is rushed and there is little time to develop the story. There is a much stronger attempt at realism in this version, (which shouldn't be a bad thing) but the downside is that the main character lacks the ability of uniqueness. She seems just like the rest of us but able to do some things better than the rest. Also in this version she is not the first Bionic Woman which again lacks the element of uniqueness. The pace of the show is slow. It is often darkly lit with gloomy scenes. There were connecting threads of story line form one episode to another and at times felt slightly soap opera like. There was an attempt to make the series different from the original but these differences were only small. Jamie had been injured from a parachute accident in the original, here it was something different. (Why bother changing it) The idea that she is responsible for someone else is a new idea here but since she cannot reveal anything about her bionics even to someone close it feels like a wasted story thread. There is nothing wrong with the acting of the Bionic Woman but that alone cannot save this show. It is no surprise that it was axed before the original intended number of episodes had been made.
The original series was far fetched but escapist fun. We all knew it wasn't real. The pace was quicker, there was more humour in it, and the scenes were brighter and more uplifting. There was a strong effort to illustrate that the Bionics were unique and special. There was only one Bionic Woman. Each episode put the Bionic Woman in a new environment. And each episode was different.
Generally I feel this re make was a waste of time.

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Bionic Woman - Pilot Episode [DVD] (DVD)
This pilot gives me great hope that this is one show that will provide for those viewers who see fit to invest their time in it, even if it does turn out to be short-lived. Everything about this show is subtly compelling, from the lead actress, to the larger cast, from the intriguing premise to the stylish filming. The performances are genuine and the dialogue manages to be just clever enough to please ardent fans of the genre, but in a way that will still entice newcomers to the impressive blend of realism and sci-fi that's on display here.

A few reviewers have praised Katee Sackhoff (of `Battlestar Galactica' fame) while in the same breath ridiculing Michelle Ryan, well all I can say is that those people clearly don't know what they're talking about, because Ryan is a very sympathetic heroine and the combination of the two is a match made in televisual-nemesis-heaven, the perfect ying and yang of good and evil that I long to see developed in future stories. The producers were obviously taking notes on Battlestar Galactica too, because not only are there some familiar faces from that series on display here, but the camera-work is similarly jostle-y and the colours likewise muted.

All of these elements amount to a product that works, there's no doubt about it and having now become involved in the life of Jaime Sommers, I'd be very disappointed if the show was cancelled, as the rumour-mill has recently been predicting. Season One is on pre-order folks.
