Very effective and not too noisy for bedtime ......, 13 Mar 2005
This review is from: Bionaire BAP242 HEPA Air Purifier with Ioniser (Kitchen & Home)
I've suffered from chronic sinusitis for the last 16 years, had 3 operations and have been told by the doctors that I "have an allergy" but they cannot find what it is. Every morning I wake with one side of my nose completely blocked with creaking and clicking noises as I awake as the sinuses drain. I get very thick and sticky catarrh and often suffer well into the day before these symptoms relax. I bought one of these air purifiers for the bedroom and noticed an almost immediate change in air quality. Its been less than a week since we bought it and every morning I now wake brething clearly through my nose. The filters have already very noticeable signs of plenty of trapped dust, even though we keep our house very tidy and as dust free as possible. The noise is not very noticeable at all and hasn't disturbed our sleep one night. Its just a faint hum in the background, very much like an air conditioning fan in the bedroom on holiday. Even though its right next to the bed on my side and on the second setting, its fine and we sleep though it easily. Theres 2 filters on the airway - one can be washed when required and they suggest the other should be replaced every 6 months. I'm not sure what this replacement filter will cost yet. I'm just about to buy another unit for the living room and recommend this product highly if you have similar symptoms as me. Theres no doubt at all that we have benefited from this filter and only wish we had bought one long before now, especially at £40 each.

A Wonderful Product, 15 April 2005
This review is from: Bionaire BAP242 HEPA Air Purifier with Ioniser (Kitchen & Home)
I bought this in desperation for my 16 year old son who is sitting his GCSE exams this Summer. He suffers constantly with dust allergies and hay fever and was looking for a product which would help alleviate some of his symptoms in order to allow him to study without a constant blocked nose. Since having this in his room on the lowest setting he now wakes up with a clear nose and a clear head. It has allowed him to just get on with things without a constant battle to breathe. I would recommend this to anyone. The noise has not been an issue with him and he has slept no problem.

Too Noisy For Bedtime, 31 Dec 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Bionaire BAP242 HEPA Air Purifier with Ioniser (Kitchen & Home)
I bought this product for my bedroom as i suffer from dust & dust mite allergy, and was advised this would help alleviate them. The item certainly helps, as I can now breathe far more easily whilst in bed. Unfortunately, it is advertised as having 3 settings the lowest is supposed to be quiet/sleep mode, but quiet mode is certainly far from quiet, as stated in another review. I am still learning to live with it and possibly considering just using this one for the livingroom, and purchasing another one but cost is an issue as silent air purifiers cost a fair bit more than this. I advise if you have problems getting to sleep this could drive you crazy, in fact don't contemplate buying this for the bedroom unless you are deaf. All in all it does the job; it is very cheap but is far too noisy.
