I started studying at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge earlier this year, and this book was on my recommended reading list, and I am very glad it was!
Dawn is very good at explaining, chapter by chapter, the essential concepts that you must understand, from means, variations to parametric statistical tests.
With the last Maths I undertook at GCSE, this book, along with my lectures, has allowed me to feel quite confident with statistics, when I used to be terrified of them!
There is a section at the back of each chapter that explains the key points that were covered in the chapter, which is very useful for revision. There are also questions that are related to the chapter just after these key points, so you can test your knowledge.
The chapters are set out devoted to a certain topic, ie chapter 1 breaks you in with the basics, then you, slowly I might add, build up from the basics to more complex things, such as Chi-square tests and whatnot.
There are also recommendations for more complex books you can read, once you have a firm grasp of statistics, to help you move on.
Even though Dawn Hawkins is my lecturer, and this book was recommended, I would certainly recommend this myself. It really is a cracking book!
