A Solid Review 5 Jun 2005
Format:Paperback
This is an extremely good book for revision. Firstly, it is written exactly to the AQA(A) specification (all the information is there, it was written by 2 head examiners for this specification). However, its real strength lies in its questions. Not only does it have solid in-text questions but it has got past questions, that have model and student answers. I found these extremely helpful.
Therefore it can be said that this book enhances both knowledge and exam training.

However, becuase it only has the 'core' information, it may not be of use to people who want to read into the subject further, and it does not explain some points (Its a summary! Look in a text book for an explanation)

Despite this, I feel that it is a comprehensive guide for the biology exam

BEST BOOK EVER 14 Jan 2005
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
If you, like me, are studying the AQA(A) Biology, this is the best book ever. Im currently studying for the A2 course, and my success so far, I can owe solely to this book. The notes the teacher gives are straight out of the book, so this is how good it is. It has all these exam hints, which highlight common mistakes, and if you think too, that the Bill Indge book is v. long-winded, then this book is really for you. It tells you what you need to know, plus what they will ask you. An amazing find, I would fully recommend this book to any student doing the course for this exam board. One thing though- when you get to the section on photosynthesis, the book incorrectly states that RuBP is a 4C molecule, when it should be a 5C molecule. But apart from that, its a god send- this is like the insider's book, telling you exactly what the examiners want from you in the exam. If you are not convinced, buy it anyway, and then send it back if its not for you, but i'll be very suprised if anyone can find fault with this book. Excellent. BUY! BUY! BUY!

I attained 280/300 in my AS Biology examinations and I firmly believe that it was down to this truly exceptional book.

What's so great about this book you may ask? Firstly, it sticks EXACTLY to the syllabus so you know for sure what you are reading is relevant. Secondly, there are extremely useful examiners comments referencing which areas appear most frequently in the exams, and common mistakes. Thirdly, it uses the exact wording as is detailed on the mark schemes - thus helping your exam technique improve. Fourthly, it is nicely laid out with colour and boxes to separate information. The bullet point lists and step-by-step methods for principles make it easier to learn the required knowledge. Finally, it contains an excellent set of past-examination questions to help test your understanding.

I highly recommend this book to all AQA A Biology students. I wouldn't have survived without it - the "regular" AQA A Biology text book is too long and goes into way too much detail. This contains the core information you need to know to attain the highest possible score.
