From the Author

My reasons for writing this book arise from a dilemma and a
long-held conviction associated with this dilemma. It has always seemed to
me that biological psychology is unnecessarily frightening to a large
number of psychology students - I hear so often "I was never any good at
science in school". Yet biology forms an essential part of the subject and
many of this same intimidated population also wish seriously to know about
the biological perspective on psychology. So, I was determined to write a
textbook that would take all of the fear out of the subject but without
diluting the content. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

'Toates cleverly weaves in perspectives from evolutionary psychology and uses current and relevant real-life examples to illuminate key points.  ... should be at the top of any psychology student’s book list.'  Dr Michelle Lee, Swansea University

'Toates introduces the main topics of neuroscience in a beautifully simple yet highly informative manner.. This text is engaging at all times, and I strongly recommend it in the study of biological psychology.' Dr Anna Scarnà, Oxford Brookes University
