I started using this sowing and planting calendar in 2008 and have bought a copy every year since. I've grown vegetables for over 20 years, but never with such good results as since sowing and planting using the biodynamic calendar. There are other such calendars on the market but the Thun's one is the best - so easy to follow, a child could use it! Highly recommended for all growers, whether beginner or experienced.

Maria Thun and family are the doyens of biodynamic horticulture. The annual calendar gives all necessary information to plan our sowing and harvesting timetable. It needs to be read in conjunction with Maria's book Gardening for Life which sets out very clearly the philosophy of biodynamic gardening and contains a wealth of practical tips.
The Calendar could be improved by the provision of space to record what we have done each day so we can look back on our successes and failures.

Maria and Matthias Thun's Biodynamic Planting Calendar, translated by Bernard Jarman, chief officer of the UK Biodynamic Agricultural Association (BDAA) is the original planting calendar. It is backed by the Thuns' 50 years of meticulous comparative horticultural tests and thus empirically demonstrates the effects of planting according to this calendar. This year's edition (2010) explains more clearly than previous volumes the importance of the ascending and descending moon, rather than the simpler concept of 'waxing' and 'waning'.
I have used this calendar since 1972 and find it an indispensible part of everyday gardening activity. Its only drawback is that being written for a farm in Germany it lacks some cultural relevance to horticultural traditions in Great Britain.
The Thuns have now published a similar calendar for when to enjoy wine at its best, which apparently is now being used by the big supermarket chains to schedule their wine tasting. The moon calendar has also been positively reviewed in the Daily Telegraph for its wine tasting expertise.
I recommend the calendar highly.
