Product Description

Having escaped an unhappy arranged marriage, Zarleena Shankar is picking up the pieces of her life. With her successful Indian bridal wear shop, Bindis & Brides, she's proving herself an astute businesswoman. Someone who can stand on her own feet, and survive without a man. So when she meets Joel Winters in her local supermarket, Zarleena remains immune to the handsome playboy's charms. She doesn't need another man to wreck her life. And with his penchant for blue-eyed blondes, Joel seems blind to the sex appeal of dark-eyed Zarleena. But an unlikely friendship forms - and Zarleena certainly needs a friend when her predatory ex-husband turns up, intent on causing trouble. Together, Zarleena and Joel plan a spectacular revenge on the man who wants to bring her down. Will they succeed? Will the bullying Armin get his comeuppance? And will romance ever blossom between this mismatched pair of schemers?

About the Author

A former employee of the Inland Revenue and an avid reader, Nisha couldn't find any novels that really appealed to her, a young woman born in the UK of Indian parents. A Good Holiday Read 15 April 2010
Format:Paperback
This is the first book by Nisha Minhas that I have read, in fact it is the first fiction book I have read in a good many years (I'm more a read to learn kind of person) it was quite good and it helped pass time, relaxing whilst on holiday; I did laugh along with it in places, I also grimaced in places at the thought of Asian woman being treated so badly, I felt that the characters were believable and very colourful, but it still had one or two things that have put me off reading another one of Nisha's books....

I couldn't help but notice that the author had a quite strong dislike for overweight people and never failed to make unnecessarily harsh comments in her description of them. She also appears to be a bit of a man hater, not all Indian men are wife beaters on an ego trip, some of my Asian friends are the nicest blokes you could hope to meet; not ALL arranged marriages are bad, some have turned out well (I know a few happily married couples whose parents sent them to Indian to be married).

I think the author has put too much of her own personal opinions in her book, I felt like she was almost racist against her own kind when reading it; I have read several (non-fiction) books by Asian authors, true life accounts of arranged marriages, family honour and religion and I just found this one to be a bit shallow.

It did make a good holiday read and I finished inside a week but I guess I am so used to reading true life stories and reference style books that this one seemed to lack that gritty realism.

I would recommend it to someone looking for a light hearted read, but it wasn't for me personally.

Not sure????? 7 Feb 2006
By Dan
Format:Paperback
I have read all Nisha's previous novels and loved them. However, like one of the reviewers below I have to agree, it can get predictable.

I havent even finished reading the book but am finding it extremely difficult getting into it again. Unfortunately Nishas does seem to use the same formula for her novels and though these worked well for the first three, its definitely running out of steam - as is Bindis & Brides.

A definite edge or spice needs to be incorporated into her future books to keep readers wanting more. Its obvious Nishas has pure talent for creating fiction. Personally I feel she is giving us, the readers, what we want due to the success of her past books. However, all I can say is, Nishas, we were attracted to your novels in the first place because they were different and exciting and this is not the case for Bindis & Brides. Good luck on future ones though - i will definitely be checking them out.

Danny
