When I lived in California (many, many moons ago) I loved attending the numerous Renaissance Faires that were so prevalent in the Bay Area. Ms. Bybee's book, Binding Vows, incorporates the beauty of such faires with the mystique of the romantic that I absolutely loved.

Waitress Tara McAllister is our normal female from present time. She has the typical cynical outlook to most things in life--if I can't see it, touch it, it isn't real. Thankfully, she has friends that encourage her to take a moment from her busy schedule and attend a Renaissance Faire in full regalia.

Now the magic begins! Duncan MacCoinnich has traveled through time (from the 16th century). He's on a quest to conquer the sorceress Grainna or all will be lost. Our modern day Tara is the potential key that can save everything.

Binding Vows was an amazing read that pulled at the heart--filled with mystery, intrigue and magic, I enjoyed reading it.

I've not written a lot of reviews (this may be my first on Amazon) however, having just devoured all four in this series, (in a week) I turned off my Kindle long enough to log into Amazon to say Kudos to Ms Bybee for the phenominal read. I'm off sick from work at the moment and all four books in the series kept me gripped from beginning to end, to the point where twice I took pain killers late! Often sequels leave me dissapointed, none of the following three did. Excellent work, when's the next coming out?! More than gutted that there isn't another one to follow and download.

This was not the kind of book I would normally read but having read the two not quite books I gave it a try and really enjoyed it. My only negative ed would be the length of the books they seemed rather short and not quite dating was only 40 pages. But still I am looking forward to the next book.

Had to read it a second time and it was again a brilliant story.
It wasn't spoilt the least bit by having read it before, I really enjoyed it again and I don't much like rereading a book.

I enjoy reading both historical and fantasy fiction, so this book looked like a winner. The plot, characterisation, pace and writing were really well done, all the parts of being a novelist which escape my talents! However, the part which jarred was almost enough to make me give up part way through, the basic research. The background of "Medieval Scotland" lurched between the Dark Ages (pre 1066) and the 18th or even 19th Century -so much so that I began to note down discrepancies! Not something I have done before.
I would suggest either a thorough edit or setting the time travel section in a less specific time and place. Even a nodding acquaintance with Wiki-type research would have eradicated most, if not all, of the errors.
It would be worth doing an edit, as this is a cracking read and I really want to find out where the characters go next, but it will be a little while before I venture into this crazy, mixed up, almost Scotland across the years. I have really enjoyed Catherine Bybee's other books, and she has much to offer the Historical/Fantasy Genre, but, please, employ a researcher/editor.

I normally enjoy historical novels as I am somewhat of a history buff. After reading the well researched Outlander series I thought I would try this book but I found the many minor historical inaccuracies very frustrating, and the plot didn't hold me at all so I gave up reading it about 2/3 of the way through.

Great plot well written, definitely worth the effort to read.
Plenty of action and intrigue laced with magic and romance.
A strong foundation for the series, a taste of what's to come?

The characters are so engaging, I was enthralled by them. They are believable, charismatic and hot, hot, hot! Full of passion, love with lots of joy for life, humorous, principled and protective of each other and those they are responsible for. The magic they have is used to defeat the dark arts only.

Really enjoyed escaping into the world of this book, the author has my attention, can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Well I've finished Binding Vows and what a shock to my system'. A very pleasant one though. Besides the two inverted this is the first time I've ventured into Cath Bybees para normal writing. At first I didn't catch on but the more I read the more intriguing the story got until a scary and fascinating climax finished the book with a good lead into book 2 in this series. Cath proves she's not just a steamy semi erotic writer with thus book but also has a vivid imagination. Definitely a book to have on your shelf.
