I have never used sat nav before, but after reading reviews, decided to purchase this one. I tried it and although I found the 'turn right' instead of bear right a little off putting at first, i soon got used to it. It gives clear directions and the screen size makes it easy to follow. It did take me round the houses a bit on my first journey, but i didn't get lost which was the main reason i bought it! For the money I think this is excellent, so good that I decided to buy one for a friend as a birthday present. I would recommend this as excellent value, with clear instructions.

This is good for the money ... but there are a few provisos.
I have previously ownded the first TomTom Sat Nav that came out and purchased it owning to the good reviews on here, so for the benefit of others, I would like to point out the less than rosey points.
So, starting with the positive, the screen is large, the window mount works and it gets you from A to Z more of less adequately.
Going on a very long journey of 7 hours, I found it did not direct VERY well at motorway junctions. There were clearly some instances when it SHOULD have indicated that I took the left exit, but it did not. Also, it does not (as TOMTOM) say 'keep right' when you are coming to large junctions. It just keeps silent. At other times, the voice can be annoying e.g. 'take the OXIT' and it gives far too many instructions coming to a junction (e.g. at EVERY 100 yards) which is over-kill.
It got me lost in the city of Exeter, and directed me down a pedestrian precinct, and then down the car free zone around the cathederal. And the speed cameras (variable speed) around Birmingham were shown as 50mph, so it bleeped the entire annoying length of that section.
In the absence of anything else in this price bracket, I have found it adequate.

so after many years service it was time to upgrade my old binatone carrera satnav. i sought advice, read endless reviews and test drove both my wifes garmin and a mates tomtom. having found out the whims and niggles that accompany both of those brands products and having the benefit of years with a binatone satnav already under my belt i decided to do a u turn and went back to binatone for the s500 with the big 5" screen. at the bargain price though would it get me to my destination?

there is no mains charger with this, but charging leads via usb and in-car are included. with the bluetooth connectivity i immediately paired the device to my phone and handsfree calls in the car were instant and work a treat. the nav is so easy to get on with and the touchscreen is simple and responsive because of its size and design, even for someone like me with big sausage fingers and a stupidity of tech! the slim shape is cool and looks great in night or day use. in operation the 'voice' and clear instructions are superior to the wifes £300 garmin (which doesn't give anything like adequate notice about lane requirements in certain situations) and there are no disappearing map concerns on update (unlike some tomtoms). friends and colleagues have already made admiring comments about the s500 and it seems value and quality can still very much go hand in hand with this satnav. in conclusion then, a massive lmfao if you paid out big cash for a big brand name. you were suckered!

i bought this through '3-monkeys' via amazon and delivery was almost instant! if you don't want to make a wrong turn with your satnav purchase i can safely recommend going straight ahead and popping this bargain into your basket.

This was a bargin, touchscreen is a little insensitive to the touch but totally workable.

I ended up buying a memory card ( Sandisk Ultra 16GB Class 10 Micro SD Card with SD Adapter ) and installing new software which vastly improved the device and what it was capable of, just google Binatone S500 iGo Primo for details on how to do that yourself. Not for the feint hearted though.

Works a treat, pulls in the satellites easily, bluetooth is great.

Arrived quickly.

Very pleased as it was only for domestic / pleasure use, if it were business use I would have gone for a Tom Tom Live and paid the extra as I used a number of those in the field for years, but wanted something less expensive this time around.

It works really well, great product for the price. The bluetooth is a very good part of it as no need to buy an additional hands free kit to use. Maps in 2D and 3D are awesome. Overall an excellent Sat Nav!!

I bought this sat nav as I was on a budget, and there were plenty of positive reviews. At first I was impressed by the nice big screen, and the ease with which I could get it up and running. However, it soon became clear that the quality of maps was dreadful. It frequently tried to take me down country roads, dead-end routes, into private property etc. At rush hour, after 2 or 3 wrong turns, I began to worry whether I'd ever get home! It also told me to turn off major roads, only to take me straight back onto them again. The worst moment came when I got lost driving down a dual carriageway, and it kept insisting I turn off at the numerous roundabouts that appeared on the screen. The only problem was, the roundabouts didn't exist! After this, I sent it back, and got myself a Garmin - now I can actually get from A to B without worrying about getting stuck down a dead-end street or taking a ridiculous route through narrow winding back-streets etc.

I found out later that this was a Which 'Don't buy'. I would certainly agree with this evaluation. Do yourself a favour and get a TomTom or Garmin!
