What an absolute bargain these radios are. When put to a comparison test with my Motorola T6222 radios these Binatones just had the edge.
The Motorola T6222 was held as a bench mark for PMR 446 radios by many. An excellent radio in many respects and they have been around for a long time. They were a very expensive radio when available.
When I did a comparison over a line of site range of some 10 miles, yes 10 miles, I live in Yorkshire and there is line of site between Holme Moss and Emley Moor of 10 miles or more, tested on the same day between these points the Motorolas just worked, lifting the squelch and giving a slightly noisy signal whilst the Binatones easily lifted the squelch and gave a slightly cleaner signal.
The Binatones are really nice, have a lot of calling facilities, look very professional and are exceedingly cheap. The build is flimsier than the rugged Motorolas but not adversely so.
They have a 9th channel facility, with the radio turned off press in and hold the up and down buttons then switch the radio on. Hey voilà channel 9.
They get top marks from me on price, looks and top performance communication wise.

I do not normally write these kind of things but I was so impressed with these units on a recent visit to Turkey that I felt compelled to post a review.

I bought these for a holiday in turkey for when we were out and about and wanted to keep in touch if we wandered off around the local area (mobile calls are horrendously expensive) They worked fine at close range (as you would expect) but on the last night my wife and I ventured out for a meal leaving our parents at the villa. We cought a boat across the bay to the local fishing village and were absolutely stunned to be able to use them when we in the restaurant. I have measured it on google maps and it was 6.5kms from the villa to the restaurant and the reception was absolutley clear - no adjusting anything - just press the button and talk. I know they say they are good for 8kms in open ground but didn't expect it for the money. They are small and lightweight to hook on the pocket of your shorts and look the business. Would recommend once you are happy with the settigns to "keylock" the buttons as it easy to adjust frequencies accidently by leaning against the buttons. All in all I am very very impressed and would recommend.

Very good value; good range and clarity. Lots of functions - far more than you'll probably need. Easy charging. Items shipped quickly but only sent the twin version not the quad. When the seller was contacted they immediately shipped to make up the order. Would definitely recommend the item and the seller.

I bought these for my husband to use for work, as his old ones had died after 6 years hard work ! His comment is this.
" These two way radio's are miles better than my old one's, the range is excellent and they are very clear, and easy to use, which we do need as we have to use them in rather noisy conditions, they are reasonably robust and very well made. I would highly recommend them for use at work, AND AS AN ADDED BONUS THEY ARE HALF THE PRICE OF PROFESSIONAL ONES ! They are not a children's toy, they are also cheaper than Argos so well done Amazon " I highly recommend them.
So there you are, endorsed by one happy husband !

Excellent bit of kit for the price. Have used this around town in the UK (range of 1.5 miles no problem) and in New York (4 blocks in Manhattan - basement store to 40+ floors - most impressive). Superb battery life and rugged construction. Don't cram it in to a tight pocket, though - I accidently depressed the 'unlock' key and the subsequent button pushes changed the channel - oops! You may have to hand over the pair at various locations in the US as they're particularly suspicious of 2-way radios with more than the base level 8 channels. Comparable sound quality and signal strength (subject to range limitations) as military/professional base unit systems.

Firstly let me say that these are EXCELLENT items.
The reason for the title " As good as..but no better!" is because I previously bought a set of Binatone Terrain 650 radio's which cost ( 1 year ago) £30.00 (approx).
These are also excellent radios, but when I saw these Action 950 I thought ( ?stupidly) that, as they were newer and cost about 50% more, that they would somehow be an improvement over the 650's.
They're NOT !
They are as good as..but no better!
Admittedly they have an extra digital "lock" to keep others from listening, but "as radio comms" they don't appear to work any better, or reach any further.
I did notice however that when the Vol is turned fully up on these, they are NOT as clear as the 650's which can be left at a preset vol whereas these you need to adjust the vol each and every time you turn on.
Despite all this negativity let me finish on a positive note:
They are good.

Product arrived as requested, generally good packaging and instructions. Advertised as up to 10 k range, however found range to be as little as 1 k where we wanted to use it, fear it will not be used as intended, so dissapointed
