Book Description

If I can generate a million paid downloads I will be giving away my house to a homeless charity!!!!

10 days before the iPhone 4s went on sale, ex bin man Rob Shoesmith set up camp outside an Apple store in London. He couldn't spend any money whilst in line and had to rely on donations. This wasn't just a crazy experiment and it wasn't all about acquiring the latest shiny iPhone!

Re-live his inspiring adventure and see how he picked himself up from rock bottom, beating depression and anxiety attacks along the way.

Detailing Rob's journey from immature student to marketing and PR exec, via call centres and emptying dustbins, this is a real life account of a young man's struggle for success and how the world of iPhone apps transformed his life!

Some Reviews

A-J - 5 stars Amazing and Inspiring

After following his progress via his Blog & Twitter and in the months since it is clear to see the drive and passion that lead him on his journey to this, this book not only accounts his time waiting in that line but his inspiring life's journey that lead him to be the person he is today, a must read.

Mr CP - 5 stars Inspiring

Saw this guy in The Sun. Just read the first few chapters, this is a powerful and inspiring account of a young man who refused to give up on his dream. Highly recommended.

Smigs198 - 5 stars Inspirational!

I have suffered anxiety and depression myself and found this book inspirational. It shows what can be achieved if you put yourself out of your comfort zone. It is written without self pity and not only is entertaining but also a wonderful demonstration of the strength of the human spirit.

PA - 5 stars - Amazing story of determination and balls

I've just finished reading this true story of someone that has overcome adversity to improve both his own life and the lives of others around him. Definitely worth a read for both interesting/funny stories and a look into the depths of this man's mind which are revealed in an honest and genius way.

Grace_H - 5 stars excellent!

have only read a few chapters but cant put it down,it really does go to show when u reach rock bottom theres only 1 way to go! well done rob!definately a must read!

A.Richads - 5 stars Inspirational!

This book is about a lot more than just 10 days. It shows how Rob Shoesmith overcame depression and anxiety and persevered against the odds to change his life for the better.

BR - 5 stars Great Story

Great story, entertaining, and inspirational for anyone. Definitely worth the read. Rob Shoesmith did a very good job with this one.

Manchak - 5 stars Inspiring rags-to-riches story

A moving, inspirational, occasionally very funny and, above all, very honest rags-to-riches story from somebody who truly knew what it's like to hit bottom in life, and to rebound.

Not your average self-help book by any means, but it's certainly very thought-provoking.

More About the Author

Here is a copy of a radio interview talking about my book.

http://www.robshoesmith.com/2012/04/radio-interview-talking-about-my-debut.html

..... My name is Rob Shoesmith and live in Coventry in the United Kingdom.

I work in Marketing and PR for a Californian based app development studio MEDL Mobile.

Only 3 years ago I was emptying dustbins for a living!

I came across MEDL Mobile and submitted an iPhone app idea called Problem Halved to their App Incubator.

The next few years have been a blur!

My journey has taken me to the USA and has culminated in a 10 night camp out for an iphone in a crazy experiment!

All I can say is I would never camp outside an Apple Store again!

It was hardcore and so hard!

I love to come up with experiment ideas that some people think are crazy!

I have just released my debut book 'Bin There Done That' on Kindle.

I'm looking to undertake an even crazier experiment in 2012!

A book will be written about my adventures.

Feel free to email me at robshoesmith81@gmail.com or tweet me @shoesmith81.

You can read my blog at www.robshoesmith.com

If any tech media are interested in reporting about my debut book please feel free to email me.

Best,

Rob Shoesmith

I thought that Rob Shoesmith's story was heartfelt and very open. He shared not just the adventure tale of camping overnight at an Apple store in London for a new product launch, but also let us into the emotional side of his life. He was honest about struggles he was having from starting out his working life as a bin man, before getting into marketing apps. For anyone young adult just starting to head into the work world, this is a great inspirational story. He shows how you can turn your life around and take things into a better direction that will make you happy. He also demonstrates that you don't have to get into a career world by standard, predictable channels. Currently in the UK we hear about how millions of young people are struggling to find work and start their careers. I think that they are all going to have to take the lead as Rob Shoesmith did and really be creative in how they go about winning the trust and attention of potential employers. The way the world works is changing, and the same old routines of submitting resumes and going on job interviews are not the only solution for getting into employment. LIke Rob Shoesmith experienced, this process can be really depressing and all along the way you are also figuring out relationships and family situations. It isn't easy for anyone. This is a great book to inspire young people setting out on their career journeys -- maybe won't camp out at an Apple store, but maybe there is something else creative you can do to find your way. Go for it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read 20 May 2012

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish, but I didn't get a sense of Rob overcoming his depression and anxiety during this challenge that he set himself, but they not have been the point of the story. But I certainly wish him all the very best with work and future projects.

5.0 out of 5 stars an amazing life story 15 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Its an amazing life story which isn't really about apple and their products but of a man's trial and tribulations over adversity. Forcing himself forward despite suffering from panic attacks. Its about who he meets while camping out at Apple Covent Garden for 10 nights

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story about facing up to your problems 11 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is quite different to anything I've read about Apple...it's really a story of how Rob has turned his life around and faced up to the problems. It's an inspiring tale where Rob meets some wonderful people.....it's really not about Apple at all.

Well done Rob
