Product Description

Billy Connolly takes the ultimate road trip as he travels the world’s most famous highway, Route 66, Billy turns Easy Rider and follows a lifelong dream as he makes the iconic 2488 mile journey from Chicago to Santa Monica. With his unrivalled ability to tell a great story, he brings to life both the big and small moments of American history: the world changing events and the comic asides.

Billy says: “Travelling Route 66 has always been a lifelong ambition - It brings together some of my favourite things - my trike, my banjo and America. The ultimate road trip”.

On his way, Billy will meet disciples of Route 66, from seasoned “roadies” to first-timers living the dream. And he won’t just be passing through: anything could happen on the way...

Includes over 40mins of exclusive, never been seen before, DVD extras - featuring Billy’s video diary from his road trip.

5.0 out of 5 stars Billy Connolly is the King of Route 66! 7 Oct 2011
I actually missed the first episode but watched the rest, and this is truly a brilliant series. And what better man to go on this journey with than Billy Connolly, he starts from Chicago all the way to Los Angeles. It shows off the beauty of what America truly is, he gets to meet various locals along the way. I highly recommend watching this as this will make up the dream of travelling through the American highway, if you don't have the money or time to do it yourself. So I suggest buying this, and going on a spectacular journey with a true legend!

Reaction to this superb series depends in my view how you feel about the 'Big Yin'. Those who love him (and there are many) will thoroughly enjoy but is there not just on much of Connolly in a documentary that is supposed to be focused on the sublime mother road ?
The selection of sites cannot be faulted, the photography of the highest standard (the sight of the stars above Monument Valley worth the price of the series on its own) the wonderful trike he rides the length of the road a joy to behold but why oh why does Connolly feel it necessary to appear in virtually every shot trying just a little to hard to be a 'personality'? His laugh begins to grate on the nerves. This day and age everything has to be celebrity driven. I suppose to sell the darn thing. Route 66 sells itself to the dreamer in us all. A wonderful series that we are lucky to have available. I thoroughly recommend it with a health warning.
