Book Description

From USA Today bestselling author Michael James Ploof.

Have you ever wondered what happens to that one missing sock of a pair? If you have ever been folding laundry and come up with lone socks, then you may have Sock Gnomes living in your home. Billy Coatbutton is one such Gnome.
It is the day of Billy’s first test of mastery, a test to see if he will become a treasure hunter like his father. Billy has studied, practiced and prepared for this day for years. Like all Gnomes that have come of age, Billy will soon spin the Wheel of Destiny and discover which item it is that he must find to become a treasure hunter within Sockefeller castle.
Along the way he meets an old recluse Sock Gnome named Helix BonsaiTree, who has more than a little to say about the practices of the greedy Sockefellers, and helps Billy to choose the right path.
During his dangerous quest Billy must overcome a vicious rat, a hungry cat, and many other obstacles, all without the help or protection of Gnomeland Sockurity. He is determined to pass his test of mastery on the first try, a feat accomplished by only one other Sock Gnome, his father.
Billy will face many decisions, the greatest of all will leave the
life of a human child hanging in the balance.

Kids and Adults will both find something for them in this whimsical adventure with one of the monst memorable characters to be found within the musty pages of a kindle...

5.0 out of 5 stars Very endearing, lovely and funny! 6 Dec. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
What a lovely little story! Perfect for adults and children. Most of us are familiar with these types of stories from the books we read in our childhood, ie elves, fairies, gnomes etc. This book is a hilarious tale about the coming-of-age of a young "Sock-Gnome" (gnomes that wear socks). It will have you in stitches (and it finally explains why we are always missing socks!) Cats are referred to as "fluffy gnome-hunters", LOL. A really funny, endearing little book. I hope there are going to be more! I will be keeping my eye out. Highly recommended!

I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful story about Billy Coatbutton and his test / quest. Wonderful character names and a great explanation for all those socks and other items that go missing or reappear from time to time.

Have you ever started a book only to find that you've found an entire new universe with new creatures? Here we are introduced to sock gnomes who choose mates by mating socks!!! Oh this is so cute and funny that I almost lost it. Too bad its short because I would have gladly stayed in this story for a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved This Book! 6 Dec. 2012

I very much enjoyed this book! I lost count of how many times I laughed out loud while reading. The characters are fun and entertaining, and the story of little Billy Coatbutton is full of adventure. The part in the book that I especially enjoyed is when Billy is forced to make a difficult decision. This story line just shows that making the correct decision is not always easy thing to do; and making the good moral decision doesn't mean there won't be consequences.

I will be passing the word along to other parents. This book is a great read for adults and kids alike! I look forward to reading more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read! 4 Dec. 2012

I liked this story so much I had to share it with my homeschool co-op. The sock gnomes steal the show and I like how they are even a little political. I'm a knitter of socks, so I thought this was a cute twist, but with a seriousness that adults will enjoy reading the story.

Great read for laughter and thought and also ok for the children to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the younger set 18 Jun. 2013

As I have 5 young grandchildren and don't like the idea of them spending half their time watching TV and the other half on their DS games, I've started collecting books to read to them when I come to babysit. Billy Coatbutton and the Wheel of Destiny is a great book for reading. It provides action and fantasy, both very important to youngsters. It also provides a subtle lesson in honesty but with emphasis on Billy, something which youngsters can easily take to heart themselves. Often young kids of early school age have multiple pressures from peers to lie, or simply not tell everything, but few examples of young people telling the truth, even when they are sure nobody will find out. Billy is caught in such a situation. And even though he knows the penalty could be severe, he puts the needs of the community above his own and tells the truth.
And who ever knew that sock gnomes are the ones taking your lost socks?

5.0 out of 5 stars A very fun read for kids who enjoy fantasy and adventure 6 Dec. 2012

I bought this book for my daughter for her after school reading and read the first few pages with her. I enjoyed them so much that I ended up downloading it on my own Kindle and reading it myself! It is a delightful, whimsical story about a young gnome named Billy Coatbutton who undergoes a coming of age tradition that leads to all kinds of silly mishaps and adventures. In their gnome society, they have a clever ritual where they choose their mates by stealing socks from humans (ever wondered why your socks always lose their mates when you take them out of the dryer?!?!). The writing style is very upbeat and the characters are very well written. My daughter is about halfway through of her copy and she is really enjoying the story so far. If you are looking for a great story for your child or grandchild, look no further. This is appropriate for fourth grade and up, probably all the way up to eighth grade.
